I can't tell you how to find your own "spirit", but it's basically coming from an extreme awareness of the sensations. Feeling "alive" is really the acknowledgment of this anxiety that you are a being, an observer, interacting with a seemingly outside world. You at any moment can do anything you want, and you don't know where to start. This anxiety is what it means to be alive, so focus on it and start developing it.
