I'm a former christian at one point in my life, at around age 15, I devoted my life to becoming a minister. I spent the rest of high school being very dedicated to my faith. I lost my faith a couple years ago. I have tons of resentment towards the church and religion in general. I'm kind of edgy but if you want to ask me questions about it you can. I don't want to attack anyone's faith as I know what it feels like to be completely consumed by a religion, but I will talk about it if you give me (You)s.
>>
Would you consider a non-christian gf/bf ?
>>
>>35974200
Why the resentment? I understand losing religion, but why resent the Church?
>>
>>35974242
When I began to become heavily involved in my church, which was a baptist church, things changed completely. My home church was okay but other churches and the convention was disgusting. Everything revolves around politics and selfish actions. Everyone in the business past being a pastor at a very small church has blood on their hands. All of them have done something or hurt someone for their benefit. I saw families livelihoods being destroyed because some head of pastoral care at some big church just didn't like the guy. Destroying his life, forcing him into minimum wage jobs because they slandered him so much for trying to fight back. I've seen how conventions manipulate and abuse cities and people for income. It's extremely toxic. The worst part is that Catholicism is much worse than protestants. The whole religion has been beaten and abused until it did nothing more than benefit the Vatican.
>>
>>35974150
I hope you find the light of Christ and a GF anon!
>>35974195
Liberal religiously, conservative in most regards politically. Anyways I'm a baptist, not a Lutheran.
>>35974200
I'll bite. I was like you a few years ago. My homosexuality and it's suppression made me a bitter an angry person. I still don't care much for many organized churches, they remind me of biblical Pharisees.
>>35974230
I'm kind of flirting with someone right now. But I would consider it. If we were otherwise compatible I would certainly date them. I would prefer a Christian BF though.
>>
>>35974379
What are your thoughts on alcohol and drugs ?
>>
I'm a Catholic, although I'm not too involved with the church or anything in particular. Other branches of Christianity to me are like cheap knock-offs (Excluding Eastern and Greek Orthodox.)
>>
I wouldn't mind a family minded religious qt who's okay with traditional family values, even though I am not very religious myself.
>>
I'm Orthodox Christian
>>
>>35974446
I think that Alcohol can be used responsibly. I glass of wine or two or a few beers is fine. But I'm not a fan of drunkenness. I guess if you smoke a little weed or w/e I don't care but I don't do it myself.
>>35974502

>>35974026
That is kind of true. The main issue is extramarital sex, which homosexuals typically have a shitload of. Any homosexual acts of any kind are a sin, similar to how any straight sexual acts are a sin outside of marriage. Having homosexual desires, but not doing anything about it, isn't necessarily a sin

Liberal as in I believe in Science. Conservative would be more akin to fundamentalist.
>>
>>35975912
Oh OK, that makes sense. I love telling people how science and god aren't mutually exclusive. And how science can even make the Majesty of god more prominent.

>>
>>35976249
Ya, I believe God guided the process. Even Christian Scholars in the early church often thought the early old testament was metaphorical.
>>
>>35973051
I'm not sure if I'd call myself a Christian, but I've always liked it, I try to read the Bible from time to time, and I enjoy being in Churches as I find them relaxing places, I was thinking of going to an Easter service this year

I always get put off by other religious people tho, I always feel like they come on a little to strong, I just keep my faith to myself, it gives me strength sometimes
>>
>>35976330
Yeah I feel the same way. As far as interacting with other religious people, the way they communicate varies.

As far as people who share their faith all the time go, there's definitely a good way and bad way to go about it. If they constantly judge you, and point out areas of your life that need improvement, than that is a pretty terrible way of evangelizing. Even thought they most likely have good faith, they can be detrimental to others. I prefer people who are just genuinely happy about faith, and want to share it through inviting others to join them. I suppose that could also be annoying to some, but I've come to respect it.

I would definitely recommend going to an easter service, and trying to go somewhere consistently afterwards.
>>
Are you a old testament vengeful god type person or a new testament forgiving god type person?

Being in such a depraved place means that your soul will definitely go to hell.

Simply believing on the Lord Jesus Christ means you will go to Heaven. Nothing more, nothing less.

Well yeah, but the word believing in that context means accepting him as your savior. Also, that verse is Jesus talking. Salvation involves accepting the death of Christ, which was after that verse.

I tried attending church a while back, two Protestant ones, it reminded me why I hate Christianity so much.

Got a few numbers from girls in the Young Adults group, made some acquaintances, etc. I ended up "seeing" three girls, two at the first, the third at the second.

The first two, despite coming across like the devout and dedicated types, weren't virgins. I actually pressed each of them on why they weren't. Both gave me the same perfunctory answer that "they loved the guy, made a mistake, and God forgives them."

I got fed up with it and tried a different church, chalking it up to one bad experience. I met some qt in the merged Youth/Young adult group. Again, this one seemed bookish, introverted and dedicated to the religion. Two dates in and she mentions she's a born again virgin and doesn't believe in sex until marriage. I asked her what she meant by born again, and she responded with some nonsense about how she had slept with a guy, but it's okay because she rededicated herself to God.

Why is modern Christianity such a joke?
>>
>>35977592
>Protestant
gonna have to be more specific than that, nerd
>>
>>35977592
I mean if your sole desire in attending church is trying to find virgin chicks, that's kinda fucked up. Do it for the sake of your personal faith
>>
>>35977592
I can help with this, so I've had sex, it was only once and I really regret it, but after I did the deed the way I felt afterward, all hollow and used and empty, made me release that all those 'traditional' values where right, and it helped me get on the right path, I know it must be frustrating, but a lot of people are being raised without any knowledge of God and the Bible and so they dont know what they're doing is wrong, I know it makes me a massive hypocrite, but its happened now, and all I can do is try and live a better life
>>
>>35977630

The first was non-denominational, the second was a Lutheran one.

I know some /pol/acks have recommended Presbyterian Churches to me, but I can't imagine them taking things any more seriously than the others.

Seems like the only people who take religion even somewhat seriously are certain Catholics and Orthodox Christians. The first is out of the question, because I'm unfortunate enough to live in an area where the Catholic Churches are filled with Hispanics, the latter has never been a real thing in America, so I doubt it's much more than second-generation immigrations and tradition-starved Protestants.
>>
>>35977662
That's literally my only reason for attending. The statistics on the value of virginity don't lie, and I'd literally rather die alone than even date a non-virgin girl at this point.
>>
>>35977689
I don't think his issue was born-again people, but the fact that they still though they were virgins.

Your story seems like it has a good ending, and I respect it.
>>
>>35977592
>hook up with devoted religious girl
>reject her because she caved to her primal desires once

What makes you think you deserve a woman, let alone a 10/10 perfect virgin?

I unironically hope you die screaming you fucking faggot
>>
>>35977759
Than that's a shitty reason to go to church. I know the stats, and I totally agree with you on virgins being more virtuous, or whatever the word is. All i'm saying is that if the ONLY reason you go to church is to find virgins, than that is fucked up, and probably won't work all that well.

>>35977779
Who said I'm asking for a 10/10 woman, anon?

I was seeing qts that were 7-8.5 when I spent a year at Uni. The Church girls I was bothering to pursue were 5-6s.

I'm not asking for a gorgeous supermodel, with the most interesting personality in the world that will fulfill every single wish of mine. I'm just asking for a virgin.

You can play it off as a small mistake all you like, look at the multitude of studies that have been done on the subject. Previous partner count is predictive of divorce and cheating. There's a significant leap in likelihood of negative relationship outcomes between zero and even 1 partner. Plus, I'm just disgusted by used goods. The fact that they think they're "good Christians" turns me off even more.

Oh and nice try in that attempt to synonymize virginity with perfection. Just half a century ago it was considered by many to be a minimum requirement for marriage.

>>35977787
I was being hyperbolic in the last post, but it was a large motivating factor. I am also somewhat interested in trying to rekindle my faith, but the forgiveness aspect of Christianity has always been a sticking point for me and I find it hard to move past such a foundational concept that I don't care for in the slightest.

>>
Christian leaning but haven't been able to make the leap of faith just yet, considering how long I've been stuggling with it I probably never will. I have however come to regognize Christianity as ultimately a positive force for society and personal growth.

There is admittedly substantial corruption within any organized religion but those are the flaws of man endemic to any institution which we create rather than the flaws of the faith.
>>
>>35977938
What do you mean by the forgiveness aspect christianity being a sticking point? Do you not want forgiveness?
>>
>>35978095
Some things are unforgiveable. Since we're talking virginity, I'll stick with that.

Say a woman has slept with one person before, she thinks it was a mistake and she really regrets it. She can be sorry all she likes; however, the reality is that she's still used goods, and the statistics on premarital sex will apply to her and her future husband.

The absolute best case scenario I've seen is people assuming "forgiveness" absolves them of all consequences and returns them to being a blank slate.

The worst case scenario is when people use it as an excuse to just do whatever the Hell they want and disregard the "inconvenient" or "archaic" moral teachings.
>>
>>35978166
No sin is unforgivable to Christ. I'm not saying that you have to be fine with non-virgins and marry them anyway, but If people ask God for forgiveness, and repent from them, you should at least respect them for that.

God's love is unconditional.
>>
>>35978196

See, that's my problem with Christianity. Religion is typically used to regulate behavior and attempt to make "good" people.

Placing such an emphasis on Christianity, as the modern iterations do, really just serves to gloss over their faults so long as they "try."

There are no sins that are unforgivable, and God's love never dissipates. That is a biblical fact. The Ten Commandmants are sacred, but it's not like you can;t seek forgiveness if you break them, or go to hell.

The thing is, at least in my denomination, that you can gain forgiveness for any sin save having a perfect witness of the Lord, such as seeing God and all his works. To gain forgiveness you must a) confess to God or your bishop depending on the severity of the sin and b) never do it again. For serious sins the process can take years. There's no banging a slut and going to confessions and saying twenty hail marys or whatever.
Though
>gloss over their faults so long as they try
that's kind of the point of Christianity mate.
