What the other anon said, lots of lonely people, mostly boys aged 18-24 saiying anything and evrrything they want to because no one will really stop them here. It creates a place where horrible things are posted, but also really nice things from time to time. It's just nice to have a place where you don't have to watch your mouth or be afraid of social interaction for once.

Fair enough. Matthew has been going through a lot lately, and he seems to be internalizing all of it. His mother and I divorced last year so hes constantly between our respective houses. He doesn't see his friends anymore, he doesn't shower, he stays in the same clothes from when I pick him up on Friday until he leaves on Sunday. I went through his computer last night and found quite a few shocking things including this site. He is only 15. I don't think he should be here, even if its only an escape like you said. I can't confront him about what I found as it would betray his trust and I want him to come to me on his own, but I'm worried about the path he's going down and I can't get his mother to care enough to opt for therapy. 4chan as a whole is just an anonymous message board website with themed boards. The fact that it's anonymous and only loosely moderated naturally means that a lot of the content is offensive and generally objectionable, and it also means that fringe groups (e.g. literal neo-Nazis) gravitate here.

This particular board is themeless but has attracted a group of friendless male virgins who call themselves 'robots'. They generally hate women, people with jobs, or anyone who they see as being more privileged than them. If your son is troubled and on this board, it's probably a bad sign. You don't have to be a delusional failure to browse this board, but I could certainly see the board taking a troubled child and warping his worldview.

I think you need to try to communicate with your son, although granted at his age that may be impossible.

Disciplinary actions is maybe not whats needed. Just take him out and do stuff together, fishing, camping, go to a game and sometimes engange in one of his interests just to show that you care.

Show your son how to interact with the world and the people in it, give him the tools to do that himself. Sites like these are escapeism and a substitute for people who dont know how to or have a hard time doing exactly that.

We might be a jaded bunch of loners on a internet message board, but what we dont need is more of us.

I made this thread about an hour ago, and I had steam coming out of my ears, but from what Ive gathered this place seems to be a natural milestone for all males with some degree of self awareness.
