I'd rather be aware and unhappy. It sucks more, but my instinct tells me that it's better to know the painful truth than believing a comforting lie.

Both sound intolerable if they're unchangeable
Like, I wouldn't want to be aware and unhappy FOREVER, but if it was just for my lifespan it would be okay, or if I could somehow change things to be happy, that would be okay too.

Same goes for being unaware and happy. I could accept it if it was a milestone towards being aware, or because it might give me happy memories to rely on later, but I wouldn't want to be that way forever.

You can still be aware of this and still be happy. Eventually you sort of get over it and go about your daily life again. My best advice is to learn to laugh in the face of absurdity and accept it and just do what you can with what little time you have.
