Cyberpunk general.
Let us discuss various cyberpunk feels, media, etc.I know you have nothing better to do.
what exactly is cyberpunk?
>>35936179
I guess I'll dump some stuff to begin with.
>>35936200
Not sure if bait, but here you are https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberpunk
>>35936231
Anybody have any favorite music artists for the cyberpunk feel?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qErfn5Ioou8
>>35936231
so basically a mix of neo-noir and dystopian future, i kinda like it
>>35936259
I have heard Ghost in the Shell Hollywood edition is of questionable quality...
>>35936290
Anybody read Synners? Just started it and wondering if what some folks thought of it.
>>35936273
I am glad friend, stick around. Plenty of books, shows, and the like that is related if your interested. I think it can be quite comfy.

Mmmmm I love me a playlist that really flows.

I wish more friends would join the thread...
>>35936490
We had a really nice thread last time...
>>35936273
This is still the best description of cyberpunk I've read going on nearly 13 years:
>The genre simultaneously acknowledges the impossible potential of mankind to achieve so much and yet poison it all with our terrible human predisposition to greed, violence, and apathy.
>Many critics argue that this genre is dead and buried, that its concepts of cyberjockies hacking the corporations has become archaic and unnecessary. In that regard the critics are absolutely right, computer hackers aren't the 21st century's Robin Hood or Mandela, they're just silly kids defacing websites and scammers running identity theft rings.
>To me cyberpunk was never about the heroes and heroines of the various novels, it was about the seductive nature of technology,
>the idea that the stunning beauty of our artifice could so entrance us that we would be willing to give up everything else for it
>>35936583
Instead we flock to trap and fembot threads, feels bad man.
>>35936685
That is quite nice indeed.
>>35936179
Is that drawn by the same artist as this one?
>>35937216
I believe so. This is what is from if I'm correct.

>Be me
>Poorfag of 53th Sector.
>Not as bad as 60'ies but I would give my liver for 45 or so.
>Running low of canned coffie, xenon gas, noodles and syntetic meat.
>Turn WallTv To Meteo channel.
>Probably's going to rain.
>Fug.holotape
>I don't want to get irradiated again.
>Whatever, I really want my noodles.
>Also I need that Xenon Gas from enhanced arm (Need it to jerk off)
>Get Gas mask and anti rain hood.
>Walk out of home.
>It's not raining.
>Decide to move fast anyway could start any second now.
>To reach shop quickly i have to walk through the Muties sector.
>Usually avoid it, but I have to this time.
>Put on mask and hood because you never know.
>LITERALLY 5 seconds after I enter mutated scrub sector a couple of fucking shitty half crocs brainlets come close to me.
>"well are you going Human?"
>Don't really want to talk with them.
>"Shopping."
>They see my arm.
>They notice I'm running low on xenon.
>They start to pick on me.
>"What's the problem tin arm? You runned out of fuel due to intensive fapping?"
>I speedwalk away without saying anything.
>Mfw They were right
>I FUCKING HATE MUTIES.
>RETURN IN THE FLOODED OLD UNDERGROUND WHERE THEY DESERVE TO STAY.
>>35937482
After being modified for years to help us deal with the bots, having a giggle with a bithead like you is the least they deserve, ungrateful puregene.
>>35937482
Goddamn muties always shitting on our habits, not our fault they went to so many nuclear night clubs and became so irradiated that they can't fap.
They're just jealous.

anybody hear read Neuromancer or other stuff by William Gibson? i devoured that book a few weeks ago
guys im working on a cyberpunk mmorpg
how crazy is that when what keeps me going partly is the female character that I made in a videogame that I dont play anymore, but I still think about her, and when I think of anything love/family related it's always her image that I see and it gives me lots of comfort
>>35938002
What video game?
and good luck anon
>>35938029
thanks. well i mean im thinking of a cyberpunk mmorpg. like designing it. but i think to give the utmost freedom to the player i think it would be better to make it post-cyberpunk. the super oppressive state would be part of the old lore.
>>35937978
Yeah, I finished it about the same time as you. I got Count Zero and Mona Lisa too, but I'm working on reading Count Zero and it's harder to stay focused on it. Not as engaging as Neuromancer. I really got into that book, I wish I was Wintermute. Being an god-like AI seems comfy.
>>35938109
haha what videogame character did u jerk it to
>>35938114
i finished count zero as well. that one is much shorter and less refined than neuromancer, but i liked bobby. i think it had to do with how much more effort he put into neuromancer, apparently he wrote and rewrote that book several times. that world he created was so captivating.
contributing some cyb
Can you guys reccommend where to start to really get into cyberpunk? I'm five episodes into the Lain show now, not sure if that counts as part of the genre or not but it's really neat so far and it's gotten me interested in reading/watching some more "real" cyberpunk shit
>>35938410
cyberpunk isn't real friend
>>35938383
A cyberpunk world would probably be the worst to live in but I love the setting and imagery so much.
>>35938438
You know what I mean, works that are more officially part of the genre if that makes sense.
Explore more than just cyberpunk media. You can't become a cyberpunk. You can live a cyberpunk lifestyle though.
Up to you really, I like to think a lot of shit falls under cyberpunk. What kind of hobbies do you like?
If you wanna go deeper, check out cripplechan's /cyber/ or lainchan. I also posted some good links here: >>35937916
>>35938410
books like neromancer and movies like bladerunner, matrix and dredd. other anime like ghost in the shell and psycho pass. games like deus ex
>>35938465
>You can live a cyberpunk lifestyle though.
no you can't
>>35938455
I mean there is no cyberpunk
>>35938410
this was meant for you: >>35938465
>>35938438
More real than you think. Companies like 23andMe making you pay to steal your DNA. Elites jerking each other off behind the scenes. Politics are an utter joke, entertainment to the masses, reality TV. Sedating everyone with yummy GMOs and cheap fast food filled with xenoestrogens. As Gibson said: ''The future is already here. It's just not evenly distributed.''
>>35938481
more anime i wanna add are bubble gum crisis, akira, and neo tokyo. also cowboy bebop and many other anime are cyb at least at times
>>35938002
you know about cyberpunk 2077, the game by CDPR?
>>35938532
>Elites jerking each other off behind the scenes. Politics are an utter joke, entertainment to the masses
Rome wasn't cyberpunk.
>>35938603
Rome didn't have cyberspace.
>>35938567
Not him. I'm excited for it but it won't be an mmo sadly. fortunately star citizen is pretty cyb in many areas

neither are unoriginal ones

>lying awake at 4am, sounds of aircon and purifiers humming
>my pc banks winking lights in the dark, half-finished servo arm lying on desk waiting for the new cables i ordered to arrive
>cant sleep, constant noise of the air traffic going by outside going on 24/7 and light coming in through the blinds from adverts displayed on my hab block's exterior
>decide to go out and get some food, seeing as i can't sleep
>get dressed, coat on, put on breather mask and shoulder-slung purifier for the journey as it's a high pollutant month
>put on cyberglasses to have something to watch while i'm out
>take the elevator down 130 stories to sub-ground level B
>it's underground here but the rain still leaks through the grates in the ceiling - except now it's oily and smells terrible
>rising plumes of steam from the hundreds of air exchange units everywhere, covering the outsides of buildings like barnacles
>cheap fluorescent strip lights and coloured neon adverts make it feel as bright as day, which isn't that bright any more, just a soupy grey from the pollution
>walk out into busy underground street market, asians everywhere trying to sell their shitty electronics parts and cheap drugs
>squeeze past to get to noodle bar, grab a seat and order from the holographic menu, moments later a bowl of noodles is brought to me by an elderly chinese man
>pay him the brouzouf, put a vid on my cyberlgasses and chow down
>food is ok, tastes like rat or something but it's from actual synthetic animals, not the weird pseudo-food paste you get in some places
>suddenly a girl sits next to me, she's beautiful, wearing a short red dress and has long black hair
>can see she's got very nice augs, her arms and face are smooth and almost lifelike, only her eyes give away a vague empty feeling that tells me she's a synthetic
>"you busy tonight?" she says in a smooth north european accent, probably learned from a quick facial recognition scan all of my porn history and adapted herself to suit
>>35938410
Dorohedoro is pretty good, though its not really traditional cyberpunk
>>35938685
try imagining it relative to a specific city...forget about tokyo and hong kong, what if moscow was a cyber city? what about berlin, or caracas, or rejkjavik? the aesthetic is only tied because it's always a dark neon asian city. try to imagine it with different architecture, street signs, etc. but keep the futuristic tech and high-rise night city aesthetic and it should be more interesting. Especially works for a game, eg. Deus Ex being set in prague gave it a very different feel than blade runner or GitS but it was still very cyber.
>>35938551
>neo tokyo
Damn forgot about that one. Music kinda related.

>>35938410
In addition to this >>35938481 would highly recommend the Shadowrun games.

>i tell her i'm not interested, i dont have the money anyway
>she sighs and walks away, i can faintly hear the gyros in her leg motors whirring as she strides off to some other bar
>finish my noodles and leave, the rain above ground is getting heavy and it's muggy and oppressive down here now
>decide to go abov eground for a walk before heading home
>take the express stairs and get up into a huge mall, adverts and signs everywhere mentioning my name and asking me if i'm satisied with my life
>try to ignore it and make my way outside, huge expressway above me humming with cars and a hypertrain line suspended beneath it
>look out into the street, thousands of people milling about with umbrellas, all covered in heavy coats and ponchos and goggles and breather masks, which are basically essential for living on the surface
>pass by a few electronics stores and a sex sim parlour before looping around back to my tower block
>the rain is getting super heavy and my shoes are starting to leak so i'm glad to get inside, take the elevator back upstairs and go back to my one-bed apartment
>put clothes in the decontamination closet for laser-cleaning and flop onto my bed
>pour a glass of synthol and relax, shafts of light coming in from the window, everything seems much quieter and more peaceful now compared to outside
>drift off to sleep in my chair
wake up in the morning
>i'm actually a 23 year old male posting on the internet at night
>living in the real world where we will never have cyberaugs and futuristic tech
>cyberpunk will never be real
>post your feels when

>tfw now I've got a whole bunch of ideas and more script than I've written in some time (a little under 14 pages, I don't write as often as I like)
>tfw no fucking idea where the story's going
I saw Ghost In The Shell today and as bad as it was the visuals were fucking gorgeous. Gave me some ideas on how to move this thing forward.
Here's the script, I've posted it far too many times here but I'd like some feedback.

Thanks bruv, much appreciated. I've been writing it really whenever the mood strikes, so I'm just sort of putting it together as I go along. I have a vague idea of how I want it to end (Jonathan quits being a fucking pussy and kills the main bad guy who I don't know yet and Kira gets one a them Steak Sammiches) but really any ideas I have I just toss in haphazardly and try to make them stick.
I really like the Desperado hidden gun thing in the casino though, that's fun as fuck for me.

Slavoj Zizek was just on the news (RT) today predicting that if Neuralink does indeed create technology to directly connect the human brain with cyberspace / internet, it will create a biological class division between the few who are disconnected and control the network and the many who unknowingly have their thoughts manipulated by the network
The fact that this nightmare scenario is a concern is promising

Frankly I can't do musicals, at least in movie format. Stage productions are fine. The Blues Brothers is one of my favorite movies tho if u count that. Little Shop of Horrors is also ok.
Cyberpunk musical when?

Anime is like the best thing to go mainstream since you can enjoy it alone and the people making it don't care.
