Is kek meme inspired from wow or Korea
wow tards are the absolute worst. Casual fest that ruined the genre.

Neither..
I'm not an oldfag (Someone who has been here since the beginning of 4chan), but I've been here for almost a decade. We only started using the word "Kek" just after we started to pick up "lel". Even 4Chan archives will prove this. K and L are side by side; it's a common error to spell words wrong like that.

It's from WoW. People who think otherwise are misinformed.
any real oldfags (pre-2006) even here anymore?

Blizzard have a huge korean following, the put it in WoW as tribute
keck school of medicine dumbcuk
isn't kek the guy who throws mankind off the hell in a cell in 1998

Wow's language filter that converts lol to kek is a tribute to the whole Korean "ke ke ke zergrush" meme. And starcraft is older than Wow.

Did it become a meme due to WoW popularity?
>>35909455
Sure, I came on the site when there's was the donation Longcat on the page that nobody actually contributed to. Being an oldfag doesn't change the fact that my posting quality is garbage though.

Not him but I do. I find interesting how memes develop throug time and medium. It's like a broken phone game of internet culture.

Yes, it did. Just because the origin of the word "kek" is not from WoW does not mean that "kek" was a word in WoW and was the reason the term caught popularity on 4chan.
I have to school some of you retards.
First of all, yes, the term "Kek" was probably from WoW, but that's not why we use it.
The green line represents wow players
The red line represents the term "Top KEK"
The blue line represents the term "Kek".
"Top kek" was a relatively unused term up until the beginning of 2013
That purple line represents the chat logs on minecraft where me and my friends on polandcraft said "Top kek", quite a while before its prominence on 4chan, and quite a while before "Kek" was generally used on 4chan at all. The term "Lel" and "Top lel" was used way before any of that, and we only said "kek" as a typo, just as "lel" was more or less a typo of "lol". "Kek" only gained notoriety in 2012, because we used it along with spurdo speak and troll speak.
The only reason World of warcraft had anything to do with "kek", was that 4chan already had a large wow player base, and the term was easily picked up.
Kek was used in 2008-09 maybe even before on /b/. Korean->StarCraft meme->WoW->4chan. Anything after 2011-12 is irrelevant because it became mainstream and lost its WoW connotation
