Because we are a superior civilization. Being fat used to be possible only for the wealthiest nobles. For every other civilization in history the problem was keeping the lower class from mass starvation. Our problem is that the lower class is eating too much food.

It's like how other countries can't even get clean drinking water, while we use purified water just for shitting in. America won history so hard that everything is backwards now.

-awful city planning means everyone drives everywhere (no basic life exercise)
-awful food standards means everyone eats 1 pound (non-metric alert) of sugar/corn starch every meal
-it's become so normalized that if you don't carry 40 pound hibernation """love handles""" you seem puny and malnourished, like a hobo
-the work/life ratio is so out of wack that people fill their emotional and intellectual vacuum with treats and snacks
