So what is the difference between being really sad and depressed ?

When you're depressed, you don't just feel sadness. You feel self-loathing. Hell, some days, you feel nothing.

Sadness is just a mood that can be altered by doing things you enjoy or getting blessings you wanted. Depression is a state of mind. Your brain will not let you be happy, you could have a gf, you could have a good paying job, you could be well like, but your brain cannot release anything to lift that mood. Depression is living without joy or peace of mind.

Sadness is a temporary emotion and it can be a very strong one. Depression is all-encompassing and doesn't go away and it's kind of like a really cold void where you can't feel anything but low all the time. You can't be happy, you wake up every day upset that you're still alive, you can't communicate with people and you're generally just empty and kind of soulless.

In my view depression isn't even on the sadness/happiness scale, it's a certainty that things cannot improve in any way but death, which is sad, but not sadness in itself.

Depression is all consuming. It's like being swallowed up by an endless void of emo edge. I dont even remember what classic sadness feels like.
