Charlie Kaufman has always written robot tier movies. I would suggest you watch Anomalisa. It kind of reminds me how robots project the perfect girl onto a oneitis, but then at some point she always turns out to be horrible.

I liked Anomalisa but I felt like it was a retread of the themes of Synecdoche.

In fact that makes sense because Anomalisa was written first, so it's really like proto-synecdoche

Not exactly the same. Anomalisa is about being personally alone, Synedoche is an existential horror.
