Cubical Farms: Are they comfy or soul sucking?
>>
>>35807549
When my dad used to take me to his job as a kid, I thought they were comfy.
>>
>>35807549
It'd be comfy if the walls were higher. In lieu of that you don't have privacy so it would feel bad.
>>
>>35807549
comfy to visit, hell to work in

They're much better than open plan offices.

If you're a robot, few things are more soul-sucking than having to spend 8 hours a day in one of these.
>>
>>35807589
I'll say that smaller scale office spaces with a couple of cubicles can be pretty comfy, but once it gets into the expansive human beehive-tier level of cubicle farms it becomes a little depressing.

My Grandmother worked for an environmental engineering firm and I'd always love going to her office as a kid.
>>
>>35807691
Wew that truly looks hellish

Open space offices are hell with or without cubicles.

Only actual office rooms are comfy.
>>
>>35807691

This. I have to listen to my phone taking phone calls and hunt and pecking on his keyboard 3 feet behind me and I'm always frazzled by the end of the day. A cozy cube I could hang some decorations in would be nice.

Honestly, I just can't relate to all those fucking Boomer and Gen X movies where the main character has an office and a decent job but it's just not fulfillllling. Cry moar. I'd kill just to have a house and a secure job.
>>
As someone who worked blue collar jobs for 10 years (warehouse shit, mostly), I'd kill for a cubicle job.

I had got an actual office at a small tech company, but quit cause the pay sucked. Do you hate me?

>tfw work in an 'open plan' office
>co-workers are normies who seem comfortable with it
>they dedcorate their desks with things and have fun mugs and shit
>my desk is bare, and I have a collection of plastic cups
>normie co workers make 'friendly' jokes at my expense
>call me 'Plain Desk Peter'
>sometimes they walk past and say things like 'hey peter, you dropped your family photo' and point at nothing on the floor
>I am 45 years old
>sometimes they ask why I don't have pictures of my family
>I told them that my wife died before I could take pictures and that my daughter is ashamed of her big nose
>in reality I am alone forever
>have tried a few times to 'decorate' my desk
>at christmas put a small plastic christmas tree there
>someone saw and loudly said 'HEY EVERYONE, PETE HAS SOME DECORATIONS! OR IS THIS TREE A PICTURE OF YOUR DAUGHTER AND SHE IS ASHAMED OF HER NOSE BECAUSE IT IS A CHRISTMAS TREE HAHA'
>take it away straight away

I hate this
>>

I would love to have a job like this, fuck.
>>
>>35808215
You just need an angle, anon. Might I suggest bringing in mints every day to share with others? Then you could be 'the guy with the mints'.
>>
>>35807691
I fucking HATE open offices, and every goddamn company is trying to force everybody into them now because "LE GOOGLE DOES IT XD"
Yeah well google also lets you move around and work wherever you want and doesnt make you work contiguous 8 hour shifts next to some smelly asshole that doesnt shut up

Normies always do this shit when you don't tell them much about you. I was once asked what kind of music I liked and I said Classical and Black Metal.

Now every time they see me they mention it. "HEY IT'S THAT BLACK METAL GUY!"

And we're the autistic ones?
>>
>>35808215
Your fault for being such a pushover.
I would have told them to go fuck themselves immediately and if they talk to me again I would beat the living shit out of them in the parking lot. And it would work too, because I look intimidating and everyone is afraid of me.

>>
it depends on the cubicle

i have had two types:

the first one was working at an outgoing call centre doing surveys when i was 18:

>probably 1.5x1.5 metres
>not allowed to have anything other than little hand trinkets
>supervisors were loser lifers who relish the pathetically low amount of authority they have and walk around eyeing you like cops
>seats were assigned at the beginning of every shift to make sure you weren't near your friends so you couldn't talk to them
>breaks were recorded literally to the second
>could get written up for shit like "taking bathroom breaks too frequently"

the second one is working at an environmental consulting firm when i was 25:

>probably 4x4 metres
>could put whatever i wanted in there as long as it wasn't outwardly offensive
>free coffee in the break room
>work mostly independently
>double-wide monitor, could customize entire workstation to my liking
>could request a sit/stand desk if desired
>were actively encouraged to get up and walk around frequently to avoid eye strain and back problems

basically what i mean to say is that there are many different types of cube farms and it is usually dependent of the skill level required to do the job. i despised my survey job cube but i found my enviro job cube very relaxing and enjoyable

Google also subsidizes your housing or something and I don't think almost any employer is about to do that.
>>
>>35808352
>>35808387

They are trolling you, quite successfully by the sounds of things. The correct response is to shoot a bit of banter back in their direction.
>>
>>35808452

Don't they also have a water slide and massage parlor in their office?

And my employer just decided free coffee for employees cost the company too much. But they'll just randomly selectively steal ideas from progressive companies.
>>
>>35808215
>I told them that my wife died before I could take pictures and that my daughter is ashamed of her big nose

How are you so autistic? I'd rather just tell them I'm forever alone than attempting this blatantly obvious lie.
>>
>>35808365
And you would be escorted out by police the next day.
>>
>>35808215
Sorry to hear that, Pretend Wife Peter.
>>
>>35808452
Yeah but that's my point.
They're trying to be le hip cool google, but they're not doing any of the shit except for "NO WALLS! OPEN OFFICE! FREE THE IDEAS BECAUSE I'M AN IDIOT!"
>>
>>35808526
>>35808570
If it's stuff that'll hurt you in order to get the slightest bit more productivity, they'll do it. If it helps you, they'll conveniently ignore it.

I think a water slide and massages is excessive, but housing subs are fucking huge when you consider Google is in California and without subs you're left on your own in a place where 2K+ studio apartments are the norm.
>>
>>35808617
I don't even want housing subsidization. I just want the open-office meme to fuck off. Or if they're going to do it, give me the option to not be a part of it.

I only worked a student job in a sort of open office but not really.
The desks were grouped together so it was 3-4 desks to one group. The entire room had maybe 30 of those groups.
It was pretty shit because it's really noisy and my dumb fucking normo "neighbor" kept telling me about his shitty family.
>>
Lol, your company doesn't give you your own personal office? Cubicles are wagecuck status.

I'll definitely kill myself before becoming an office wageslave. What the fuck is wrong with the modern world? We have utterly lost touch with nature and willingly imprison ourselves in those squalid conditions... sweet Christ
>>
I work in a cubicle. It's not bad. I work at a company that does some govt stuff I cannot discuss. But the best part is, we have an in-house chef/restaurant. Free restaurant quality meals every day. There's also a soft ice cream machine.

We're not even in a big city or anything, just some random shit city. No other office in this city has an in-house restaurant, I'm sure.
>>
>>35808526

no they just take the ones that dont cost them any money or inconveniences management.
