Until recently I browsed reddit's front page, mostly on mobile (I stick to mobile friendly sites). But they changed the front page so it's now a garbage dump of r/WhenYourDankMemeIsLit and r/RandomFuckingSubredditYouveNeverHeardOf shitposts. Before it was more curated and the top stories were often news events, now there's hardly any news or they're buried between shitposts. I wonder if this was intentional and they don't want important yet undesireable news stories to be widely discussed.

Reddit is a neckbeard cesspool and 4chan is an edgy teenager cesspool. Simple as that.

This has to be a troll, but I feel like this is something that needs to be mentioned. In general, message boards have problems where certain users can show up in a thread and completely change the way the thread progresses, simply because of their handle. We even see this on 4chan, where most users tend to remain anonymous. However, every once in a while, a tripfag, a namefag, or the staff decides to post and, often, when someone with a handle posts, it begins to derail the thread. Obviously there's variations in the degree of the derailment, but it still happens. In fact, some posters on boards which use flags claim that "flagposting" is part of the cancer as well, as the flag itself can completely derail a discussion. However, when acknowledging the flaws that exist in on 4chan, I really should re-iterate that it's worse on sites where every post by every user is that user building up their identity.

That's not even discussing the problems that are unique to sites like Voat, Reddit and Digg. The way the upmoot system works completely changes how the discussion evolves. and creates a way for users to censor content without even needing staff intervention. A voting system for comments and submissions was the single worst evolution for online communities.

When you go to reddit, you find a board that is so specific to your interests or discussion topics that there is no room for any dissenting opinion or different perspectives.
