Nah that's an oversimplification. I guess I would just say that Vietnamese is better suited for western palates in general. Chinese cuisine has been simmering away for thousands of years and they've gone so far with things that a lot of dishes are extremely intricate, alien, or over-wrought for outside tastes.

Most of the girls I had crushes on were white, but I didn't know how to approach them. It was even harder since I lived in the Midwest in the 90's so these were kind of typical white suburban families who were nothing like my family. Anime was still restricted to hyper-weebs and people didn't know/care about Asian stuff in general. they had their circles of all white friends and acquaintances who went to church and grew up together, etc.
