No, in this case it really is mere coincidence. There is no social imperative to keep conversation flowing on an online discussion, especially an anonymous one, like there is in a discussion in person. People drop in or drop out of conversation here with no consequences and no objectives. Some people may be casting their voice into the void, some may be refreshing the thread in the hopes of getting a response; not caring about anything else that happens in the thread.

The only time you could rightfully think your post killed a thread is posting cheese pizza. Nothing else you could do, aside from obviously disregarded spam, would be cause rather coincidence.
