i told my parents to set up an appointment with the psychiatrist and they send me to just a talk therapist... i just want some benzos or a diagnosis to make me feel better about being a fucking autist. their reason being "we dont believe in pyschiatry" ?????
i dont have enough dollarydoos to set up my own appointment consistently but i dont want to stay on this board forever so this is my long way of asking:
What is therapy like? Did it help? Any stories appreciated

Went for the first time two days ago and it was very pleasant, but it probably depends on the type of therapist you get. He even asked me if I wanted to see a psychiatric nurse who can prescribe medication, in addition to seeing him and i said yeah so he's going to help me through that process as well.
Get someone who's a younger guy, that'll probably be your best bet.

I strongly agree that it depends on your therapist.
I've had plenty that didn't help me at all, and one that helped me work through a lot of my issues.

Well I've only been there once so far so I don't know what he's gonna do yet but the first day is pretty much you getting asked a really long list of questions about pretty much everything, things you like to do, your family, how well you sleep, foods you like, etc, and on points of interest he'll ask deeper questions. It's really just him running diagnostics on you.
