Especially for someone who isn't the most social, finding a new job is really daunting and emotionally taxing and it's not that she doesn't know what to do, she is just afraid of doing it. No amount of help from you is going to fix that and it's probably embarrassing for her to have you "trying to help" and therefore getting a bit nosy into her personal failures. She feels helpless and frustrated and this is going to make her depressed. It's temporary, just do what you can to assuage the symptoms.

She probably wants to impress you and feels intimidated by your success. You should talk to her about this, but I wonder what you'll want to say? You SHOULD tell her that since you're together, your success is success for both of you and it shouldn't make her mad, remind her that everyone has a different starting point and that she will get hers eventually. Maybe tell her you don't judge her by her career successes and like her anyway.

A couple places in this thread it sounded like you wanted to break up with her. Is that true? If so, don't do it on or near her birthday. If you're planning on staying together, then idk what your question is about her birthday, just get her a gift like normal, don't spend more than fifty bucks on it and maybe look at doing dinner or something as well.
