It's an evolutionary trait left in us from our primordial days.

You see. All of life on earth, including mankind originated from the ocean. So even though we have fully adapted to being land mammals, the leftover part of our primordial brain still tells us to go to the ocean every mating season (summer)

That's why we feel happy there. We may not know why, but it's the subconscious satisfaction of going back to the evolutionary beginning.

Fellow coastal anon here. I can go to the beach whenever I want, but I hate it.

Basically, if you live near the beach it's all just old news to you, whereas if you live away from the beach it's like you're a kid in a candy store.

I used to live in a beach town in Alabama. Tourists fucking everywhere. Not as bad as some other places, but still.

It's nice and relaxing if it's dead empty and not ridiculously hot. Aside from that, fuck it.

I used to go there when it was empty and fantasize about dramatic and exciting lives, with a back story to every one of them.

They were my only real way of coping with life at the moment.
