woah i was just thinking this about an hour ago. i'm by no means a philosophy expert, but he's definitely the most overhyped of the entry level philosophers. most nietzsche readers probably haven't even read stirner or schopenhauer (which are also blatantly entry level, but much more insightful imo).

who do you guys think are genuinely good reads? i just started reading bataille which is a bit laughable so far, and i've been thinking about finally digging in to heidegger. is it worth it?

I would agree with the notion that Nietzsche is widely over quoted and mostly misunderstood, but I think he was nonetheless a great thinker a great man. The fact that we're even having a discussion about him over a hundred years later makes that fairly clear. I also wish people who find interest in Nietzsche would then branch out more and find other interesting philosophies, but in no way do I think less of Nietzsche.

I only started digging into heidegger because of FF7
I think too many people butcher the concept of dasein and self awareness about the being in the now shit so they just sound perky and fun to be around.
