man, i'd say 40% of the time at work when i greet cunts coming into the hotel i say "good evening" and they say "fine, and you?"

i chuckle every time sure but there are a startlingly high amount of people engaging in retail or similar transactions that are only devoting a modicum of attention and effort.

i've also got rather bad tinnitus from a middle ear defect so conversation can be tough in a loud environment especially. when i can't hear people in one of these environments, i just tell them what the fuck is going on with my ears and do my best to ignore the REEEEEEE that i am subjected to 24/7

on one hand it is likely comforting to come to believe most folks aren't scrutinizing you as much as you're scrutinizing yourself. on the other, it can get a little depressing in a derealization sort of sense. seems like you're the only one that is "turned on", to put it shittily.

Working register made me question my hearing, there were so many people mumbling and speaking quietly I thought I was going deaf. Especially with cigarettes, I don't know if it's because they're ashamed to be buying them or the routines of the interaction made them sloppy but people would ALWAYS mumble. There's so many brands and varieties (lights, menthols, hundreds etc etc) most of the time I'd have to repeat back to them for confirmation.

Second week of my new place of work. Supervisor trusts me enough to share why he was demoted from manager to supervisor. Turned out he was a manager for 3 years until one little fuck up until he was demoted by a temp boss. The real boss will be back next week and I already have good boy points with the soon to be supervisor again. Working with losers is great. I look like a king.
