I don't know about the first part but the second part definitely.

Thank fuck. I hate everything. I hope I die alone.

We will probably have perfected anti-aging by then

We can already reverse aging via telomerase treatments, but they carry a huge risk of cancer. But curing cancer is def something that we can see in our lifetimes

Jokes on you. I'm not going to grow old.

Once you've witnessed someone die at an advanced age, growing that old becomes a much less appealing thing.

I should already be dead

i watched my grandpa slowly languish to nothing from alzheimers over the course of 5 years, in the end he died in a hospital bed from pneumonia after vomiting while laying down and it got into his lungs

If you spend your whole life in a plastic room Death will drop a plane on your head.

>not living to the age of cybernetic augmentations

>not having your consciousness uploaded to a computer mainframe and becoming immortal
>>
>>35577794
The point is to delay it as much as possible.

I have seen literal 100 year olds who are still mentally capable. I remember a year ago, a 104 year old body builder died, he was buff as fuck too. Not everyone ages the same.
>>
>>35577840
Cool psychosis friend.

Even if the problem of mind body could be solved to such an extent that we can preserve consciousness and know we are preserving rather than replicating, the second a really bad solar flare hits you are fucking dead.

Or maybe they could beam you through space to save you if you'd prefer that. Travelling through space as a stream of data for years upon years, your consciousness slowly being eroded and corrupted. Who knows what you will be when you finally land. And who knows what will find you.
>>
>>35577840
No computer is advanced enough to upload a single mind. And it wont be that way for at least another century or so.

It is more realistic we find a cure for aging, which is around the corner anyways
>>
>>35576914
Nope, I'm gonna get my mind uploaded and live forever. Feel free to die with your meat husk if you want, though.
>>

Yes, but that was the absolute extreme. Worst case scenario they back you up wrong and you get deleted or corrupted a day in.
>>
>>35578072
it still beats dying of "natural causes" aka your organs failing because you've spent the last 70 years eating salt and meat and cheese
>>
>>35577999

Telomere theory of aging is not as accepted as you mistakenly believe. For example, Humans have the shortest telomeres of all primates but the longest lifespans.

The underlying mechanisms of aging are still poorly understood.

>>
>>35578108
telomeres replicate faster the more you eat. calorie restriction slows the aging process because your telomeres repicate at a much slower rate. calorie restriction has also been proven to restore and repair damaged telomeres
>>
It is meant to be, it is the nature of things, nothing sad about this, nothing bad will happen when we die and we cannot escape it

>>

We have no idea why caloric restriction increases longevity.

>telomeres replicate at a much slower rate

If Telomeres were the casual mechanism for aging, we would see a correlation between Telomere length/Telomerase and longevity. We don't. Telomeres do play a role in Cancer Resistance, but I don't think it does much in terms of aging.

Just an attempt to show a correlation between Telomere length, health, and aging. I am not convinced, since there are studies which show extending telomeres does not extend life.

>tfw you are going to grow old and die

I once looked forward to old age because I believed it would remove the fear of death that haunts us in our youth. I've watched older relatives, exhausted by a lifetime, accept death with a calm resignation. I assumed that if I reached their age, that sort of peace would save me from the terror of death as well. When we are younger, when the impulse toward life is so aggressive, the thought of death is staggering; something so natural and inevitable is felt to be a perversion of Nature rather than an expression of it. For the young, it is. Nature drives us to exist. Regardless of how miserable we may be, She inspires even the most ludicrous hope if it compels us to draw our next breath. The repulsive man still looks at women with desire even if there is no chance he'll ever have one, the drowning man will struggle against the ocean even as it swallows him up. Yet I always assured myself old age would provide peace, that the life force eventually relents, and it's because of this an old man can die with a gentle smile on his face rather than a rictus of horror.

Yet, a friend of mine offered a different rationale. He suggested that these are people who have lived full lives, who have done the things people are meant to. They have fulfilled their obligation to Life, all debts have been paid, and so there's nothing Death could take from them. It wasn't that they no longer feared Death because they had at long last become empty but, rather, because they could no longer become any more full.

What a horrible idea to hear. To think Death at an old age would be perceived as a ministering angel to those who had lived well, and a tormenting devil to those who had lived lives of loneliness and despair. It's a terrifying thing to think that one's final breath, rather than being a gentle sigh, will be the final exhalation of a prolonged scream that Nature, at long last, strangles into silence.
