I've passed the MBTI test several times over the last five years and I've always been either INTP or INTJ.

I've been called autistic a few times.
I don't think I am.
I am quite functional in spite of my inability to make friends at uni, my stolidity and my frequent spasms.

I never went to see a psychiatrist or anything like that (I don't trust them) so I have never been diagnosed.

Something that unsettles me a lot is that my mother recently started saying she likes having a special child but wishes I was a bit more normal sometimes. I'm 21 and she never said such a thing until a few monthes ago.

But it feels really disheartening when you read the descriptions and think how better society would be if we all followed them (not the aloof cold robot stuff necessarily, but traits like unbiased, logical, not seeking fame, not manipulative,...), instead we are seen as the weird ones

Remember when you were small and read all those fairytales that told you how to be good, how not to be evil and so on and then you grew up and the world didn't work like that, but you still believed those principles not because some book said so but because it genuinely seemed to you like the correct way to behave? The point he was making is that a lot of times he would come in and help me close my customers. I thought it was because he viewed me as a teammate.

I think he invested in me and he realized something about me early on that made me a liability.
There were no issues in his behavior until I broke up with my long time girlfriend under his advice.
(I had been arrested for some mental health / drug issues in the same town awhile back) I was never charged but he always implied he had good connections in town.

He gave me some solid advice but eventually it turned into him telling me to do something, and then denying he ever told me that.

I understand you, I know I am rational, but I still don't trust myself not to fuck up under pressure. Let me guess - people always said you were very smart and you never experienced failing. Therein lies the problem for us. Your only chance is to learn how to fail in a safe environment, but you probably missed that chance by 5 or 10 years. The only advice I can offer is whatever you fear usually becomes much less of a deal once it actually happens (think about your first finals in college vs the following) - but that's something you have to find out yourself

sort of, I experienced failing on measures requiring effort and excelling on measures that required nothing more than my natural born intelligence. I was therefore praised for my intelligence while reprimanded for my laziness. In retrospect I can give myself a little bit of a break because I just understand myself better now, I actually think about my motivations for doing things before I do them and think about things in terms of opportunity cost, risks and potential outcomes, all sorts of things, so I just can't make myself do something if I know my motivations don't line up based on my own priorities, but I've still internalized myself as very lazy and hate myself for it and feel ashamed. This reinforces my beliefs about my self weakness and only throws me back into the downward spiral of shame and self hatred which makes it even harder to perform when my motivation isn't high.

I've set my aspirations much higher now and ironically I'm doing better than ever. I'm demanding more out of myself and learning to trust my own opinions over those of others and it's been freeing. I have hope now that I can actually do the things I want to do because I finally know what it is I want to do and have a plan for how to get there.
