It's pretty easy.
You may want to find a group if you are a newb.
Take a drive to wilderness areas which are green on maps.
Maybe stay in your car and acclimate until you get cramped.
Go outside.
Touch dirt and pat tree.
This is called nature.
See rock? Walk on it.
Try not to freak out.
If you brought a backpack and simple supplies you are ready for hike.
Bring more shelter for overnight trips.
Bring a good book, I suggest Missing 411.

Basically this. I don't have a car to get places and I hate carrying bags and backpacks, so I just go for walks on hiking trails in the mountains between parts of the city I can get to by bus and only carrying a water bottle with me.
