been neeting it up for the last few years but now mum is demanding that I go to uni.
the problem is, i'm fucking retarded and have no drive in life. I'm good at nothing and perfectly content with just being a shut-in the rest of my life. But I guess that's ending soon.

What should I take thats piss easy, easy enough for a autistic brainlet retard like me to understand, and involves the least amount of social interaction? (ie group/partner work, presentations, networking, projects...basically anything that involves having to speak to people.)

I spent four years.

Four years working hard. Trying to keep my grades up. I had a part time job for a lot of it to save up some money.

Couldn't get an internship. Applied to so many places, nobody ever wanted to even call or interview me. Many were just dead end responses even after multiple attempts.

Now can't get job. Apply to so many places and companies will say they will interview me and then forget, or cancel them. Going to graduate in one of the most lucrative fields ever and be part of the tiny minority who can't find a job in it.

$80000 in loans. 4 years of trying in school. And for what?
>>
Graduating in a week lads, it'll be nice to not be surrounded by hyperliberal normie cunts but desu i'm not looking forward to being a NEET or having to find a job

Dropped out of uni a month ago

>kicked out of house for dropping uni
>fired from job the week before dropping out for dude weed by a snitching co worker
>homeless bum hitchhiking for 2 weeks as I slowly make my way to NYC
>become begger in NYC making about 300-400 on a good day

Currently just spending all my money on weed an alc, sleeping in girls houses whenever I can after fucking them. Gots a decent amount of money and even have an iPhone. Usually pretty wasted by 10am off some liquor, roll backwoods when I smoke, smoke about 7 grams a day. Sleeping outside isn't so bad either just gets super cold sometimes.

It's much more competitive than accounting in terms of getting a good job/connected

Our professional accounting program (the one that hooks people up with the big 4 firms) accepted 134 people last year

The professional financial program only accepted 10, and the volume of students is the same for that field of study. You needed a 3.9 GPA just to be considered for it

Basically what I'm saying is; be on top of your shit. Otherwise you're just wasting your time
>>
>>35534165
Isn't everything so competitive? What did they think was going to happen when they tell every single fucking kid to go to college? Oh nevermind (((they))) knew exactly what they were doing.
>>
>>35534087

>>
>>35533997
You clearly didn't try hard enough and embellishing your story to get undeserved sympathy. I know fucking losers with shitty GPAs in engineering/accounting/marketing that snagged shitty internships.

You'd have to be a lazy sack of shit to not even be considered for one.

It's my last semester. I have all of my paperwork in for graduation. I have three lab classes, two bio and one chem. I'm trying to quit drinking and and the course load for these classes is pretty high so I've been stressed out and having a hard time budgeting my time. All I have to do is get C's to graduate cum laude.

Also
I've seen a lot of people
Saying cs is a meme cause so many foreigners are stealing the jobs.
Any truth to that?
>>
>>35534205
Some things are way more competitive than others, which was the point of my post.

But yeah, the "college" market has been diluted with tons of people, making everything much harder to attain. Sucks to suck, but you've got to adapt.
>>
>>35534165
But isn't it also really easy to find a job as a finance student?

Also, what kind of stuff are they looking for exactly? Just grades? I'm considering getting involved with the student life at my university but don't know what I clubs and stuff I should take part in. Any recommendations? Thanks.

>Any other competitive academic anons?
What does that even mean? What field?
>>
>>35534305
So based on my understanding, (I go to a school with a really good business/management school) it's more competitive on the finance side than the accounting side (what I'm doing)

Everybody that got jobs at MetLife, the #1 goal for finance students due to prestige/pay were super involved on campus, got officer positions in student orgs, stayed involved with top faculty and kept their GPAs above a 3.7 (and even that was considered "low")

Some even took it upon themselves to get papers published to Havard and Oxford. Why it's so competitive? Fuck if I know. Everybody wants to do Wall Street/investment banking shit due to how that's shown in the movies I guess.

If you're Latino, join ALPFA. It's a fantastic club to make friends in

Find a finance leadership club

And then find a social club that has a lot of people in your field of study. If you're surrounded by people in your field, you'll keep your mind sharp.

I had top grade in my class all years until now (4th year) while working to pay rent and taking an accelerated courseload. It's so hard for me to give a fuck any more more, I haven't applied to jobs since Dec (only had 2 interview so far, no offer) and I'm going out 3-4 nights/week instead of studying or working F/T at my current job. - Make sure you understand why your formulas work, not just how to apply them. Just applying the formula is a shortcut; if you don't understand it future years will be harder.

>>
>>35535192
>What the fuck is this shit? Spivak?

Yes, our first year calculus was based on Spivak's text. Every comp sci, statistics, and math major had to take this specific calculus course to stay in the program. About 30% of them failed and had to retake the course, or ended up dropping out.

I also took analysis in 2nd and 3rd year and we used Kolmogorov's and Royden/Fitzpatrick's real analysis texts.

It's not hard though! The difficulty is normal. Our early year courses just aren't demanding enough. Almost everyone I know has awful proof skills. They make circular arguments and can't use quantifiers properly. If the early courses were harder, they would be better at those skills. Instead, even studious people flail because they didn't get enough practice struggling. That's why hard intro courses are a gift.

I graduated already and finished that class with a decent grade - certainly well above the average.

As for whether I came out with stronger or useful skills, I'm not sure. The degree hasn't really opened too many doors in terms of employment opportunities.

>2 years into my course

I came on this course because i wanted to study complexity, computability, logic, languages and machine theory, all that sort of theoretical stuff. Thats what i was led to believe CS actually was.

Instead i'm barely passing practical modules because i am neither any good, nor have any interest, in programming in a software engineering sense. I'm over halfway through the course and haven't even touched what I actually came here to learn.

Now you can ask them for a letter of recommendation, and they'll have plenty to say about your initiative and work ethic.

That way you don't have to pay for the degree but you still learn the trade. Do professors prevent you from attending classes and lectures if you're not enrolled?

I'm not following, how would you take classes from an art professor who works at a University without enrolling?

If you mean an apprenticeship then that is possible I suppose, but I don't really know how one would do that.

A friend of mine did revive that offer from a teacher in our department, but that was after taking the class. I guess the teacher was just that impressed with her work.

This is what I'm referring to:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academic_audit

It's when you attend college classes but you don't get a degree at the end of it.

If the art degree itself isn't worth anything but you still want to learn how to create art, why don't art students just audit art classes?
>>
>>35537473
I looked into it out of curiosity. At my Uni you have to get permission from the instructor, and meet prerequisites for the course which would stop you at my school pretty early.
Barring that I suppose that it would be doable. I just went with art because I was told I had to go to college. I had to pick something.

His room is next to mine, so if he hears me open my door he jumps up and opens his every time.

If I manage to get past, he will hear the door downstairs and he will come into the living room.

Problem is, the bathroom is adjoined to the living room (fucked up I know), so he even makes my shits uncomfortable.

Extremely worried here and could do with some knowledge if anyone has it.

Just done my uni accommodation application and there was a bit where it asks for disabilities, I've got pretty bad depression and insomnia (with some social anxiety for good measure) and I ticked the ''mental disorder'' box, does that mean they'll put me in the spaz accommodations? with like the sen heads and shit? Proper worried because I am really looking forward to meeting a new group of people and hopefully going out regularly with them but dont want to be with proper mental lot unless its a QT schizo girl.

Going to college next year, what should I major in and what career field should I aim for? If I want a stable, decent paying job that won't make me want to kill myself lol

I have no specific interests or a dream job, but I do well in school (work ethic, grades) cause I have no friends.

I'm good at math and science. My parents are pushing premed on me bc I'm Asian but I don't wanna die in med school. Engineering sounds nice but I don't want to be the only girl in classes either. So what should I do?
>>

engineering is a huge meme, no? Just reading this thread it seems the general consensus is that STEM is a meme and not worth it, but it's the only thing I'm good at :(
>>
I want to go to uni however I feel like it's just a meme and I'm not sure if paying a shit tonne of money to study something is worth it because I can make a decent enough living for myself with skills I already have. Half the reason why I'd want to go is it would force me to not actively avoid people.

This semester has been busy because my schedule consists pretty much completely of chemistry classes (Analytical II, Inorganic, Biochemistry II), but I've only got one more semester to go and it shouldn't be too bad as I just have to make it through pchem pretty much. I've still got some homework to do over spring break that I keep procrastinating, but I've still got the rest of the week and weekend to go. I have to do a seminar at the end of the semester and I kind of need to start working on that, gonna do it on something I've been doing in my research lab. I should have 2-3 papers that I'm authored on by the end of the semester so hopefully that makes me look better when I try to get a job.

Question, guys:

Is there a website that will put captions on pictures exactly like OP's?

I can see that the font is Helvetica Light, which I have, but the problem is if I do it myself, the text will be extremely sharp and crisp, and it won't have that faded jpeggy effect.

I deal with biophysical and thermodynamic type stuff. Basically we look at the thermodynamics of ligands binding to DNA, to see if they would be effective anti-cancer agents just in terms of how well they bind to DNA. We test a variety of ligands on a variety of DNA types such as duplex, quadruplex, telomere, cancer sequences such as c-Myc and Ras. Our most commonly used instruments are isothermal titration calorimetry, Circular Dichroism spectroscopy, and occasionally things like Mass spectroscopy and molecular modelling. That's kind of the brief overview, some of the drugs with deal with are things like ruthenium complexes that are essentially planar.

Not good desu pal. Got major depressed this year and didn't go to any lectures for like 4 months. Going to apply to resit the year, but that's not all bad because all my mates are doing master's, and I get a lot of free money from SLC (britfag btw).

The only problem is that my uni basically expels you until the point in the time one year after you started fucking up, then re-enrolls you, so I need to try to convince them I've been buggered for ages to get maximum benefit. I have, but not sure how to prove it.

Go to a doctor and let him write a note explaining your mental health issues. Your university administration will then recognise the cause for your grades being poor. It would help if you had some good grades when you weren't depressed to prove that your performance is usually on par but probably not necessary.

It doesn't matter that nobody will care if I'm gay, it's the fact that I have a pretty significant fear that once I come out people will act differently around me (e.g. Chad will quit playfully sitting on my lap when he goes to sit down next to me or headbutting me if he goes to pick something up that's near me or I'll be left out of conversations or people will quit saying "that's gay" or making gay jokes around me, etc.)

If you want to learn ultra-baby math properly:

Read George Simmon's "Precalc in a Nutshell," and do the problems from there, along with Gelfand's "Algebra" and his other books.

The gelfand books in particular have very good problems that can get tough, but they start off easy, and they're fast reads, too.

I'm convinced that if a high schooler went through these, they could get an easy 800 in SAT Math.

I'm at a private party school even though I hate partying and can't relate to anyone because my parents thought it was a good school. Turns out it's pretty terrible for CS, not even ranked on most lists. The local commuter school here is better for CS. So I have almost no friends and pay a bunch of money to go to a school that's good at a couple things that aren't CS.

Also for reasons relating to the social scene here, I think I maybe wouldn't be a khv if I went somewhere else. It seems like the only way to meet girls here is to be in a frat or to be in a non-engineering major. Also everyone is chad here. Maybe if I went to a less chad school I'd have more self-confidence, right now it's abysmal because literally everyone here is ripped so why even bother with girls. I can't even bring myself to TRY go to a party (I probably wouldn't get in) because I'd just look so fucking geeky compared to everyone else and wouldn't be able to hold a conversation with the turbo-normies there.

I've missed the deadline to transfer to most schools because I'm indecisive as fuck. I could still apply to the generally shittier state school which has a better CS program, and that's about it. Also my gpa would reset and I'd probably end up with a shittier one than what I have now by graduation.
So not holding up well I guess. At least it's only a small portion of my life.

I was super driven to get to uni, was pretty excited to start. That shit ended in week two of the first semester when I realised I had like 9 contact hours a week and basically no work. Thankfully I graduate in less than two months.

Just threw my entire college career away. My roommate was a stupid thug and he stole my debit card and took all my money, he would constantly smoke cigs in the room and refused to stop when I asked him, he trashed the room and made it filthy, he was always fucked up on drugs, he would stay up blasting tv from literally all night while I was trying to sleep, and he threatened me and my friends and accused me of stealing because he lost shit while on Xanax. We ended up fighting and my friends jumped in and I stomped his face in.

Now we're suspended, I had no friends or family anywhere near so I had to just pack what I could carry and leave. I can't afford to travel back for my hearing, especially since they might just expel me anyways, meaning I'd have to leave yet again. I don't even know if they're going to press criminal charges against me or not yet, I might even have to flee the state. Fuck.

I personally just want to get Uni over with so I can have my comfy office job. It's just enough motivation so that I do my work, but nothing really ever excited me about it.

>comfy office job
What degree?

If you don't want to go to uni you don't have to go. Go do a hobby you like, that way you don't avoid people

Mathematics with a concentration in Actuarial Science so I can be an actuary. Math is the one thing I'm really good at, so I decided to go for something math focused that seemed relatively easy, and also pays well.

>mother owns stake in a company since she's been with it since the beginning
>guaranteed to keep growing since they've got some exclusive government contracts
>guaranteed a nice comfy low effort marketing or office job once I get out since I know everyone there
>currently failing everything since I hate my degree

chemical engineering here
chemistry is fun

I was majoring in chemistry but this one class basically caused me to loose interest. Luckily I changed major at just the right time to have enough classes done for a chemistry minor done, and still not have that busy of a schedule.

I'm enjoying no responsibilities life over spring break, except for the part where I'm desperately trying to get a job and studying for next wednesday's physics midterm.
How the fuck do normies pull off actual vacations? I mean I would probably do it if I had money but once you hit senior year the profs stop giving a fuck and pile on the work in anticipation of spring break, would be stressful desu.
>>
>>35560238
Had a funny thought. If I was wrong about this week being spring break would I have found out by now? I skip class enough that the profs wouldn't bat an eye, and I have no friends to ask where I was or discuss upcoming homework. And I work for the university so I don't have to go outside and notice that the neighborhood isn't deserted. No, the only way I would have known is from checking the academic calendar while doing job applications.

well I was just being a memester with the "vapor wave" t b h I don't actually know what that is. unless it is something like acid rap, jazz hip hop (a la Nujabes) in which case I am familiar with it.

I go to a california state school so I don't know that that has anything to do with it
