I grew up around trad folk and inherited dozens of songs orally. I play several instruments, but this kind of music is so dead that it feels pointless to even carry on with it sometimes. I feel like I am a walking corpse playing dead men's music which it all literally is, because my relatives I learned from are all dead. I don't even know how to explain it to anyone. I come from a very different culture from most people today and I spend so much time on music, and people, especially other musicians, get curious, but I just avoid talking about it because no one likes real folk music. A lot of these songs are hundreds of years old and sounded good older people singing, but I'm young and feel like it doesn't suit my singing voice at all. I feel obligated to keep the family musical tradition going and it's miserable, I wish I just played normie shit like everyone else.

I'm a pretty decent saxophone player, but I'm rubbish at the two instruments that I wish I could play better - that being Euphonium and Organ.

I don't have enough monies to get a teacher for organ so I've been self teaching myself for a little bit under a year, and it's going pretty poorly and slowly. I'm enjoying it though, I can almost play BWV 645 decently, which I guess is an accomplishment? I don't know man.

I'm getting better at playing Euphonium, in fact I'll probably be joining a community band this summer which should be a lot of fun to play in.

I play a chromatic scale from F -> Bb at triplets and 8th notes, then I play a Bb major scale at 16th notes and sixtuplets. Then I'll usually play note slur things (not really sure what to call them) that basically involves playing the harmonic series with all possible combinations of valves down. Then I'll play through all 12 major scales and that's usually how I warm up. Is there anything else I should be doing?

Sound like you need more Tonal excersice since you have more technical ones.

Play long tones my man. It's the best excersice for every wind instrument. Just play a note and play it as best as you can and hold for as long as you can. You should strive for consistency (sound and and intonation) within all notes.

Try and review your embouchure, teeth, throat, and airflow. These are the main things that effect your tone of sound. Breath from your diaphragm, make an O sound from your throat, and get a proper buzz. Make sure your teeth are at a correct space, you should tell by looking at a tuner.

I've included this book because it was recommended and given to me by my band director. He was ranked #2 in the state of Texas (which is huge) and said it was one of the best books out there. Also it's dirt cheap. There is also different books for different instruments, so if any other anons want to improve get this book in your instrument.

I worked with the very first actual outboard sequencers decades ago when they were first invented.

A lot of people insist pro tools is the best, others insist Propeller Head REASON is the best, etc etc

I've worked with all of them, and I'm here to tell you that FL STUDIO by Image Line is THE BEST, most user friendly, well thought out sequencer on the market

(At least the PC version)

The mobile version is glitchy as fuck and of course extremely limited by Androids inherent video and audio latency issues.

That's why I actually prefer CAUSTIC 3

on PC, I use FL STUDIO 12 as my sequencing workstation, and I have two old versions of COOL EDIT PRO and SONY SOUND FORGE which I use as editing and effects suites

my anxiety prevents me from singing "right", like my diaphram reflexively closes up because i'm so used to using my "inside voice", and i only get to practice like 4-5 hours a week because i only practice when my parents aren't home because i can't get into the loud "diaphram" voice at all if I feel like my family can hear me. I also can't stop thinking about neighbors hearing me and judging me every time I fuck up a note, so my throat reflexively constricts and tries to force the note because I feel like its better to let them know that I can hit the note if they can hear me.
