Damn this really speaks to me. Being a secluded and vilified genius is real suffering. Anyone else?
>>
Everyone is the same. Everyone thinks that. You have to start small. From tiny acorns do mighty oaks etc. Besides, what do you have to say about faraway galaxies?
>>
>>35480984

>Everyone is the same

No, they're really not. And no, not everyone thinks that. A lot of people react extremely negatively when presented with philosophical discussions.
>>
>>35481034
Almost everybody thinks this way, and everybody identifies with it because OMG SO DEEEEEEP WHY IS EVERYBODY SO SHAAALLOW

And really? All the time? You want to discuss nothing but the most important shit ALWAYS? Fuck off with that, you egotistical 13 year old
>>
I hate small talk.

I don't want to hear dumb normie opinions about any of those other subjects either though.

Small talk is the gateway to deep talk I feel
It's rare you begin a conversation with.
Gee I wonder what the meaning of life is.
Ya gotta warm up.
>>
>>35481063

So according to you, I'm an egotist and immature.

But you're not, right? You're a big mature smart guy, right?

Ergo I am proven correct. Not all of us are the same.
>>
>>35481076
why do you think disagreeing with facts makes them less valid?

There is more open debate about the big questions than most people give credit.

How many people here are willing to admit that, at this very moment, they don't know what a "galaxy" actually is?

I'm one. Right now, I don't know what a galaxy is. I probably knew at some point, but I forgot. It's possible I never knew.

I'm willing to admit that. How many of you others here are willing to do that too?
>>
Okay mr. genius, what do you want to talk about? I can go on anything forever.
>>
>>35481146
Tell me about how hitler escaped to argentina to live a secret life and that his last remaining son is a transexual hermaphrodite living in indiana under the CIA's watchful eye.
>>
>so anon, tell me about your childhood
Me and my brother gangraped my sister in the woods when we were younger.
The worst part? She liked it.
>Uh let's go back to talking about the weather anon

>>

I agree with you anon. Most people literally only want to talk about their physical appearance and sex
>>

A galaxy is just a bunch of stars and shit collected into one formation
Not all that interesting desu.
>>
>>35480984
>you have to start small

Honestly I don't see it.

I'd be fine just going under the nearest bridge and talking to some insane hobo about something grand.

But most people, my peers, would view that as weird as he has fallen off the social ladder completely so they expect me to virtue-signal about my status like they do by avoiding him.

Not saying that most people aren't perfectly capable of processing and discussing these things but there's something deeply wrong about their priorities and attitudes.

If you try to change their attitudes or let them know you've changed yours, they'll start avoiding you. I'd know because I was the most popular in my life when I was the biggest critic of people who had lower status than me.
>>
>>35481226

If "we're all the same", then I'm sure you have many friends too.
>>
>>35481313
And it's not like I want to discuss which massive geopolitical strategies are superior with everyone I pass.

But the way social behavior is built, where you have to impress people with your mere presence and only after that you can attempt to impress them with your behavior and then you can possibly discuss something with them honestly, but even then if you say the wrong thing that they emotionally dislike they'll start avoiding you instead of contesting you like they should.

Why does it have to be like this?
>>
>>35481313

>I'd be fine just going under the nearest bridge and talking to some insane hobo about something grand.

I used to be like that but then I realized most people are honestly not that bright.
>>
>>35481398
I know that someone like that would probably spout things that are derived from alcohol psychosis rather than deep insight.

But it's not really the intellectual stuff I'd go to someone like that for.

It's because they're lonely and they'll jump at the first chance to have a honest, genuine conversation with someone, skipping the whole status and "impressing someone" thing entirely.

I just wish it wasn't only the lonely people who are like this.
>>
>>35481387

Have you tried learning different languages and interacting with people from other cultures?

I would recommend it very, very highly.

I'm not even saying every culture is better than whichever one you're from. Just that there is an amazing experience in learning a different language and about different cultures, and talking to people who are really different from you on such a level that it's something new.

Not everyone from every culture is such a great or friendly or smart person. Not everyone from every culture will like you. Not everyone from every culture won't be a douchebag idiot.

The point is, it's a really neat experience to broaden your social horizons and talk to people whose language and life experience is really different than your own.
>>
>>35481368
You're a retard, you know that?
>>
>>35480875
I want to talk about child pornography laws
>>

If that's the case, and we're all the same, then you're a retard too.

Mate if I wasnt in the mood to talk about the meaning of life I'd probably tell you to shut up too.

We're not all carbon clones of each other you fucking titdrop. But this idea of "DUHHH I WANA DEEP DISCUSS CAUSE NO SHALLOW" is not fucking unique to you, virtually every person in the world experiences it at some point.
>>
>>35481554

>But this idea of "DUHHH I WANA DEEP DISCUSS CAUSE NO SHALLOW" is not fucking unique to you, virtually every person in the world experiences it at some point.

I never claimed it was unique to me, but I don't have any reason to suppose virtually every person in the world experiences it.

Have you ever encountered a philosophy professor? A lot of them are pushing 80 years old and still want to talk about this stuff when they have the chance.
>>
>>35481465
Talking to you is exactly that, English isn't my first language.

I've also studied German and Swedish but I can only speak them in a clunky manner, but that's because I don't get the chance to speak them. I pick up pretty quick when I derive it from other people's speech instead of a book.

I've also traveled to other countries and spoken to foreigners but I've never spent so much time abroad that I'd actually get to know someone.
>>
>>35481516

Well, I wouldn't. I'd probably say something like, "That's a really good observation. I don't feel like discussing it in depth but hold that thought until later on, please".

Then I would go and discuss the fuck out of it.

More wonderful proof that we're not all the same, we don't all think the same about stuff like this, and all of us have different ways of acting and different priorities.
>>
>>35481615

Oh, I see.

Would you be interested in dropping a throwaway contact? I understand if you don't want to. But if you're in the mood to talk to someone about various subjects, maybe we could be friends or something.

If not it's cool.
>>

Okay, he died at the South Pole, and while his remaining son still lives he didn't care about his sons anyway.

>be tired from long day at work, being an engineer/climatologist/teacher/something useful and stressful
>decide to go to the bar and relax with a drink, maybe have a chat with a stranger to wind down
>simply want to relax and not have to constantly think
>get to chatting with one dude, seems kinda cool
>he begins to only want to talk about 1st year uni science stuff
>been talking about way more advanced stuff than that all day
>mfw i just want to relax
>mfw idiots keep talking over my experience because they read some article basically explaining quantum theories
>mfw no one can have a regular fucking conversation

This is why I hate pricks who try and have fake deep conversations. Either do something interesting with your life and talk about it, or learn more about the issues at hand than a fucking /r/atheism thread knows about.
>>
>>35481814

>be tired from long day at work, being an engineer/climatologist/teacher/something useful and stressful

So which of those do you do for a living?
>>
>>35480875
>atoms? Science?
Just join a chemistry or other science club.

Do you think normies want to hear me bore them to death with my extensive knowledge of piano, music theory and classical music?
No. So that's why I'm going to find a Classical Music Club.

Or a marine science club if you love talking about marine science. Clubs aren't just a college thing either. Look up local events online
>>
>>35480875
>sex

Normies have an interesting concept of "deep" discussions, don't they?
>>
>>35481664
It would be too much of a commitment for me to have a pen pal or whatever. I would probably take ages to respond or forget, and I'd constantly feel bad about ignoring someone I made a promise to.

So I never take these things up.

I have a problem with keeping in touch with anything that isn't physically in my reach. Even in this day and age of computers and smartphones I prefer to walk into banks, offices and businesses and handle all my business and appointments first-hand.

No idea why.
>>
>>35481911

Oh, I see. Well, I appreciate your honesty. It was worth a shot.
>>

If you don't want to talk about it, it's fine. I could just look it up.
