Like in the new final fantasy? Wouldn't it lower the skill cap drastically since the ai have to be comparatively good compared to the player so they don't die.

Maybe a system like in ff12 could work but it still turn based i guess

What this anon said. The only grind that I find enjoyable is the type that's optional, like doing countless hours of PvP/PvE to get some aesthetic reward but it not having a real major effect on the game. The idea of grinding is inherently awful, because most people quit in that phase. People push themselves to get to the fun stuff, which is endgame and then there's more grinding where the skill/gear gap between them and old players are too big so they quit. There's a lot of these common pitfalls, but it seems like people just refuse to see them. Most people don't enjoy grinding 16 hours a day every day forever, I did it for a year for Tera and it was fairly mentally taxing knowing all my hard was going to eventually be next to worthless.

I'll give some more context since i was really fucking vague with my question.
I am literally a neet for the year and one of my friends wanted to make a game so we decided to work on one because why not at least there's something to do with my time.
The basic idea is a visual novel (porn) with emphasis on gameplay so multiplayer is out of question.
The grind wouldn't be as bad of course as in a mmorpg.
I was thinking about something similar to monster hunter where you aren't just farming xp but different ingredients too so you kind of have an objective.
I'll list the main problems we had with combat systems.
Sooooo.. since it's a porn game you should ofc have your anime babes at hand, but working companions into combat is something that's hard to do with non turned based games.
With turn based combat systems our problems were with depth.
So you want to have something simple for grinding, but you want something in-depth for normal fights and this is where i disagreed with the guy i'm making the game with.

I sided with usual jrpg style combat systems like in ffx or persona with some statisfying skill checks or whatever like the ring thing in shadow hearts while he wanted something like in heroes or wakfu since there's somewhat more you can do with those systems.
Also this time stop western style combat system like in baldur's gate came up too

Check out Sengoku Rance, Rance III and hmm Rance 6. My favorite Rance game is Sengoku, but you should download them all to get a feel for the type of gameplay. One of my friends made a decent Rance-like game using RPG maker so it's not that hard.
