/g/ is about as smart as /v/ but instead of talking about video games they try talking about computers. It's a disaster. /g/ is fucking horrible. The humor is shit, the people have no idea what they're talking about, and the stuff they promote is terrible. See: ThinkPads. They have some of the worst displays you'll see in a modern computer. Even cheap consumershit laptops manage to do better than Lenovo when it comes to screens. They are loud, thick, have shitty battery life (unless you like tumors on your laptop) and use cheap plastic which will certainly wear after months of daily use.
I've owned multiple ThinkPads. They are shit. The only really good thing about them is they look nice and have the nub. That's it. Dell and HP have much better business laptops.

Apple makes good and shitty products, like any other company. You can get a 2013 Macbook Pro with an SSD and 16GB of RAM for well under $800. It'll do everything you'd want out of a laptop. You can upgrade the RAM, storage and display as well. It has thunderbolt (meaning multiple DP outputs) and an IPS display. Why hate it?

/pol/ has dramatically fallen from grace just within the last year, although the decline began as early as mid 2014. whatever you thought of their politics, it was truly hilarious for the first few years. even a liberal like mootles said it was one of his favorite boards at a point.
I would say it was maybe the peak of creativity for the site. then the fanatic fags from TRS and similar sites came over and made everything so serious, and thought just because we tolerated and used racist language means we are all legitimately alt-right, wherein reality we were a bunch of different fringe groups (libertarians, racist libertarians, conspiracy theorists, an-caps, edgelords, conservatives, contrarians and reactionaries, even some commie raiders at a point etc) who promoted a CULTURALLY (not all of us were politically) libertarian board, meaning discuss anything you want, no matter the taboo. the trs fags, though, thought that just because we engaged in racist rhetoric meant that this was a philosophically Alt-Right board (alt-right in the actual definition coined by Richard Spencer and company, not the media definition of it). they tolerated no dissent and tried to use /pol/ as a fucking MOVEMENT board, which is just cancerous, as chanology and gamergate show. the /r/the_donald cancer also came in and made things bad in a different way, although they too tried to use it as a MOVEMENT board. and they didn't even try to assimilate.plus all the outside attention milo and the media brought in attracted swarms of plebs. the board is lost to history, not even really a caricature of what it once was.

it's also ONE of the most normie boards at this point, ironically enough. I have a few other sites now that serve the function this board once did for me, but they'll never live up to the glory days of this board.
for some reason, I can't leave this place though. as far as 4chan as a whole goes, the only place where I still feel truly comfortable is /toy/. it's robot enough of a hobby, and not entry level in the way some of the other hobby boards are.

the annoying thing about /g/ is that you can't really have any in-depth discussion. part of this is the community's fault, but part of this is the mods. they ban any potentially good threads because they could be construed as "tech support". I really don't understand the problem with that. tech support is actually one of the best ways to promote in-depth tech discussion, so who cares if someone may be immediately served by it (cause that's so terrible, right)?
From my experience, it seems the only way for a thread to survive is for the discussion to be limited to shallow consumer tech, and so I don't think the board really justifies its own existence at this point. The generals can be good sometimes, though, but even then...
