Interesting premise but I virulently hate the way the female characters' faces look and it totally turns me off of the whole thing.

They are different genres.
The manga is comedy and quite informative. Combines a lot of genres that an anime would have a hard time detailing.
For the spin the anime put on it I'm O.K. with the animation and design choices. They turned her from a rationalist to more of an edgy ebil demon. Or at least that's the kind of view you'd have if you didn't read the ln or mango.

I recommend people read the manga first. Would take you an hour and then start the anime.

I haven't read the light novel or manga, but the fictional world war setting is neat. Character designs for the show look off putting though.

the antagonists are pretty good thou, and the setting is surprisingly accurate
