>tfw you can't beat materialism
>>35415771
It's not that hard. Just buy less shit and keep in mind that you don't need 90% of it.
>>35416882
This, it's not that hard OP, save a ton of money too. Materialism is a cancer, one I try my very best not to participate in.
Materialism is not beatable, so embrace it

>tfw even though you hardly buy anything, your brain still lies and says consumption will make you happy
have unironically sat in my room autistically yelling at myself how it's a lie.
fuck late capitalism.what comes after will be even worse.
I grew up poor.
I am materialistic-ish but too poor to fulfil it.
After surpressing materialistic desire for this long, you get over it.
My computer at the moment is scrounged from old bits and pieces and my only requirement of it is to function.

>develop crush on girl
>buy new clothes, shoes etc in the hopes of impressing her
>doesn't work I mean nothing to her
>develop crush after crush and repeat this cycle
I moved house recently and threw out so much stuff I barely used. Depressing as fuck but I still haven't been able to stop.
>tfw whole family is hopeless with money
>tfw earn a fuckload for someone my age
>tfw no savings and still can't run two pennies together

i grew up poor too, im pretty materialistic but i also dont really give a shit about money no matter how poor i am. i would literally pay money or not return something ill never wear just so i dont have to go outside again
>>35415771
Nah, you can beat materialism pretty easily with transcendental idealism
>>35418586
Explain pls robot
>>35415771
Where is this ideal that materialism in itself is a inherently bad thing coming from. I've heard it for as long as I can remember but they're talking about people with a ton of fucking excess not regular people like the audience they have.
Why would you even want to beat it? Just don't be a mega douche about it.

Because the attraction to things is generally arbitrary and confusing, as well as a big distraction from the pursuit of other things.
I've wasted countless fucking hours salivating over electronic crap that won't make me happy, hours i could've applied to literally anything else and used better.
It also tends to reduce people down to very boring abstractions, servants of things instead of vice-versa.
>>35415771
Are we talking about interesting materialism or boring materialism? If we're talking about the former, then tell me how pure materialism explains the presence emergent properties?
If we're talking about the latter then just stop buying shit you don't need. It's not hard. Ask yourself
>will I still have this and care about the fact that I still have it in 1 week, 1 month, or 1 year?
and purchase accordingly.
