If you wished to go back to a Gold standard you would simply revalue the Dollar/Gold conversion rate. $10K, $20K per Ounce or whatever absurdly high number would be required today. That value would also change depending on whether you wanted a 50%, 70%, 100% (or whatever percentage) backing.
