I think it would be pretty cool to catch some fish and cook them up for dinner.

be patient and if it get's away don't be too hard on yourself, it happens to the best of us. also be prepared to deal with frequent tangles and knots.

Get yourself a rod and reel, start with a cheap nice zebco spincast/closedface reel if you want easy mode. My favorite is either spincast/closedface reel or a spinning reel.

Nice rod that will hold up usually just get a combo package.

Then depending on what type of fish you are going for you have to decide on lures/hooks and bait etc.

Lots of guides online but be careful about people selling crap or endorsing crap.

My suggestion for a nice quick tackle kit is some small hooks and a bobber for few for panfish, circle hooks for catfish, beetle rig for bass/panfish, rooster tail for bass/panfish, then worm hooks and plastic worm for bass, and crappie jigs for crappie.

Isnt too expensive of a set up, I collect my own bait, worms, fish, bug like grasshoppers and such.
