I'll bite

Posted it already a few times here, but here's some post rock / ambient / classical minimalism music:
https://mechhound.bandcamp.com/

I like your drawing, OP, it reminds me of the amalgamation-y blob at the end of Inside (oops, spoilers)

Will hang around this thread a bit, I do love some creativity threads

i like the subtle progression on Fascination and both Fascination and Like silver sound like something i would listen to while drawing painting. still havent heard the cover and Zero hour. checking them right now
>>
>>35290600
I'm just drawing cubes in perspective right now. Started drawing a week ago and been watching a lot of lectures and reading plenty of books about drawing.

Autism makes me want things to be in right perspective and proportion.

these are the best/healthiest threads on nu/r9k/

your drawings look really slick and stylized, OP, you have a job drawing or something?

lamentably no, it's just a hobby. ive sold paintings before but ive never made a steady income out of it
>>

Thanks very much! Honestly I'm very grateful to everyone who donates even the smallest amount; even though it's just a hobby it's very motivating to know people like it, and drives me to make more music. Currently recording some demos at the moment for my next project; it's probably most like Zero Hour, but with guitars instead of keyboards

I love the surrealism and simplicity of your drawings; I don't think people appreciate the use of spacing enough in art, but you've utilized it very well. Very nice shading, too!

>>35291342
Nice to know you're practicing, it shows dedication to detail

>>35291362
Agreed, I have creative/creativity tagged as see first; it's honestly the only reason I come back to /r9k/ - to see everyone's hard work

I post my music on this website at times occasionally, just these dumb little NES tunes I got. They're alright, I just need to work on making longer pieces for these songs.

http://vocaroo.com/i/s1r8IbEwlcPx
http://vocaroo.com/i/s12lNnnmGIGi
http://vocaroo.com/i/s1rtR1IefDqt

Does anyone else know any other good software for making longer songs and stuff for 8 bit compositions... and other retro music making software stuff?
>>
>>35291710
I don't really know if it's any good for MIDI since I just use raw audio recordings, but Reaper is a pretty decent DAW that you can get for cheaps ($60 IIRC) - or an indefinite demo version which has all of the content, but it's very competent software for the price

What do you use at the minute?

I like these tracks, Anon - I can see them being used for an indie RPG game
>>
>>35291868
Sounds cool, dude. I might get hold of that. Me at the moment, I use something called Famitracker that is actually free. Its worth checking out, it's pretty fun to mess with once you get to grips with it.

And thanks. I always did imagine that second one as a sort of map theme or something.

Not sure if you ever played it, but you might like the OST to Spelunky classic; it's a little more drum-driven than your tracks, but you may like it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDG1moK6SCI

Ooohhh, I do like that actually, it's really atmospheric.

To be honest I've been getting into video game soundtracks, especially the retro ones... it's fascinating how they make use of such limited hardware to create such big music landscapes at times. Video Game composing really does require a lot of theory knowledge to work around limitations

Btw, if you want a pretty cool book for video game music, this one is interesting for how the music for the first mario came about.

Do you make any music, anon?

I had considered learning to do pixel art a few years back, but after trying for a while I realized I didn't actually care about it. Here are some of the ones I did
ignore the Attack on Pleb, when i first started attack on titan I really liked the armored and colossal titan's designs, but I lost interest in the series very quickly
http://imgur.com/a/VP287
>>
>>35292240
Awesome, will have to check out that book - my favourite vidya OST composers are Darren Korb (Bastion, Transistor), Kota Hoshino (Lost Kingdoms), Toby Fox (Undertale) - mainly for his excellent, excellent use of reprising motifs; and Koji Kondo (most Zelda games)

As for making music, I'm >>35290846 - I mainly write post rock type stuff, with a bit of prog and classical influence - want to get more into subtle ambiance though, like field recordings and all that
>>

No shit! I'll have to check those artists out. I know Toby Fox to be fair, and yes he is absolutely amazing at reprising motives throughout the whole game. It's pretty excellent. Koji Kondo is great at doing this too in his games, actually. I like Superjoebob for retro music, he's the dude who created Duck Game... which is a game worth checking out for music and for being a game addictive as crack, actually.

Your music sounds pretty sweet and nice, actually. I really like it... it'd be good to chill to, which I'm gonna do right now.

Field recordings are pretty interesting, too... do you have any reccomendations for that? I actually recently got a cassette player just to get hold of them artists that release ambient stuff on cassette and the like.
>>
>>35292471
it's kinda embarrassing, but that gif was a self-portrait of sorts. back then that was how I imagined I would be portrayed in an indie game

and yeah, when I was in the mental hospital I tried more traditional art in art therapy, but I couldn't really care about it either. I've been so depressed for so long that everything has been drained of pleasure and color
>>

your music is very cool and post-rock-y, on it alone i have this image of you as some cool underground hipster musician. i really like fascination, but i can't tell if the piano parts are rushing tempo-wise. reminds me of some song by amusement parks on fire, but i just can't remember it.

thanks mate. to be honest i dont see my drawings/paintings as professionally done since im messy and have a scattered mind but im glad someone else sees professionalism in them
>>
>>35292711
Truth be told, I've owned Duck Game for half a year and still haven't played it - will have to check it out since you've said that

And thanks very much, man! In retrospect, I'm not as happy as I was with the mix when I finished it, so I'm intending to revisit it once I improve to try and 'fix' it - but it's reassuring to know that people like it, thanks!

Regarding field recordings, probably my favourite artist is Noiseblast: https://noiseblast.bandcamp.com/; Analysis of a Sunset is some very tranquil work.

I don't know many field recording artists who put their work on cassette, but there's a couple of labels that I highly recommend, they do more noise and ambient stuff, with a bit of rock and electronica:
Recommended artists: Nostromo (noise rock), Underwater Escape from the Black Hole (ambient / electronica / post rock)
Recommended artists: I Like You Go Home / Underwater Escape from the Black Hole (harsh noise, post rock), Oscifer (ambient / electronica)

Thank you for listening, Anon, I admit that Fascination could be slowed down a little in retrospect, but hey ho - it's inspired mainly by Steve Reich's 'Six Pianos', which is insane: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edKE10Yz_zs

I'll have a read of your stuff shortly, Anon

Duck Game is just pure class. I mean it's really addictive and the online multiplayer is just one of the best ever. Anyone who plays duck game just loves it, I cant reccomend it enough!!

And no bother at all. To be honest I'm pretty terrible with thinking out and hearing a mix, where music should be placed... it's something I need to work on, but it doesn't sound like such a bad mix to me at the moment.

And thanks for the links, I'm gonna check these artists out for sure. Thanks, man. Is there any types of music you're trying to get into at the moment that I can potentially get you recs for?

i'll bite. This is the opening paragraph for a lovecraftian-like horror story that i never finished.

>I cannot stand it anymore. If given the chance, I would go back and undo every single decision that lead me to that place and time, to preserve my integrity of body and mind and, most importantly, to preserve the now lost ignorance that shielded me from the unspeakable things lurking behind the thin veil of time and space, staring at the insignificant fraction of the universe that we call our own, with curiosity, hunger and hate. But alas, God, if such a thing really exists, denied me the sweet embrace of oblivion from all that this tired soul has witnessed and so, the task of giving mercy falls into my own hands. So be it, I do not fear death. Not anymore.
