Who here /snek/
>>
>>35273509
I dream of getting a snek.

Praying to God that I'll be able to amass two grand for a Burmese python.

I remember before I moved out, I'd always try to earn money, or find a way to get my parents to buy me one, but they always complained about how "pets are a waste of time, you should be focusing on your future instead of useless materialistic things".

>mfw any request for an object I had they'd give me that response.
>mfw my childhood consisted of dreading the future and preparing myself for 50 years of wageslaving, only to realize on my deathbed I've never had a happy moment in my life.
Feelsgoodman.jpg

Quick question.

Can snakes recognize their owners?
>>
I know that snek!
How is that goofball doing?

Snakes can recognize their owners scent. I left a shirt of mine in my snakes enclosure a on the day I got him.
A burmese python is a horrible choice for a first snake. If you want something larger for a first snake get a female ball python or a boa constrictor.

>>35273598
Very good. He eats like a pig and is getting really curious since I moved his house

Pic is him as a babby
>>
>>35273643
I've worked WITH reptiles in the past, so I'd say I'm pretty experienced with handling, I've just never had one to myself.

The biggest issue is that you cant handle a burmese python unless someone is with you and how damn snappy the dwarf localities are.

I'll add that boas are just way cooler than burms.
>>
>>35273843
To be honest, I like all snakes, I'd just prefer a larger one, and prefer the scale patterns, as well as texture/feel of them.

Boas also tend to be a tad more expensive then pythons if I'm not mistaken?
>>
>>35273707
Why can't you handle a burmese python unless someone is with you? Is it for the reason I think?
>>
anyone here ever fucked a snake? how was it?
I dont think it's immoral considering how underdeveloped reptile brains are
>>
>>35273913
Burmese pythons are quite massive animals, and are hard to control due to their strength.

It's also quite a snappy animal, and tends to bite a LOT.

But with my experience, I've never had a Burm bite me, or a coworker.
>>
>>35273947
Okay, so they won't try to strangle and eat you then?
>>
>>35273944
>Anyone here fucked a fetus?
>I don't think it's immoral considering how fetuses aren't conscious yet.

>Ever fucked a corpse?
>It isn't immoral considering it can't feel anything, silly!
>>
>>35273947
Well, first of all, I doubt a burm could overpower ME, and second of all, I doubt it'll eat me, A. because if I keep it well-fed, it wouldn't have a NEED or DESIRE to eat me.
Third, it'll only attempt to kill me if I SERIOUSLY piss it off, which is unlikely.

>>35273879
Not really.
You can find a wild-type boa constrictor for 50 dollars pretty easily. Mines a central american hypo and he was only 125

>>35273913
It's because of how strong the animal is. if you're holding it and it turns around and goes over your arm it could accidentally break it. If it gets startled and bites you you could bleed to death. If it decides to coil you you will die.

>>35273964
It wont try to eat a human though. Humans are way too large for it. They eat stuff the size of rabbits.

more boapics. This snek has never bitten or attempted to bite a human. He dislikes cellphones though
>>

>>
>>35273985

How was this conclusion reached?
>>
I'm fish master race sorry
>>
>>35273966
fucking corpses is not inherently immoral
it's only bad because it fucks with the will of the deceased and his survivors
reptiles dont have any ability for sentimentalities like humans or mammals in general. do snakes even feel pain?

>>35273983
This is absolutely wrong.
First, burmese pythons have a massive prey drive and will happily eat themselves to death.
Secondly, no human could overpower a 20 foot burmese python. They're snappy and easily frightened too.

Please do not get a large snake, for it's snake and for the sake of all captive snakes. Bad owners getting hurt or killed makes people assume snakes are all man-killers.

>>35274020
I had him out once and my boss started texting me and the noise startled him and he tried to bite the phone. He's hated it since. It makes it hard to take videos now

Snakes very rarely need vet care if you care for them properly. They're really good at naturally staying healthy if you keep their heat, humidity correct and feed them right.
Hognose snakes are pretty great, I love how dramatic they are. I just wish they were larger.
>>
>>35274048
>>35274048
Mate, I don't know where you got your 20 feet from, but Burmese pythons, ON AVERAGE, get to a length of 13 feet, and cases of 20 feet or more are VERY uncommon.

A 10 foot snake COULD be handle-able and not be THAT bad of a hassle.

As well, if purchased as an infant, it's be possible to suppress certain instincts in it.

However, I do not deny that you are somewhat correct, as I was simply stating what I'd like in a perfect world.

Realistically, I'd probably purchase a ball python.
>>
>>35274125
hognose huh. I'd like an actual hog as a pet. That pic posted sometimes of the hog/pig in a blanket slithering out to eat a cookie made me want one. Snakes are scary, even if some are safe and won't bite. My instincts will always be telling me "SNAKE BAD, GTFO OF THERE"
>>
I have a c-corn snake that, been w-with me for only about 2 months but is 7 years old i-i think. I can hold him some of the time but he seems r-really scared of me at the moment and runs off to his hide.. a-am i just being a pussy? do i just have to grab him? ;____;

Hognose snakes will do everything in their power to make you think it'll bite you. It'll hiss, scream, flare out its neck like a cobra, whack its tail like a rattlesnake and even headbutt you.
Then play dead

>>35274240
A 15 foot burm is pretty normal now with proper feedings and modern technology and care.
Burms are also very heavy bodied animals and their length is deceptive. A 15 foot burm weighs 4x as much as a 12 foot boa

Ball pythons are pretty alright though.

>>35274299
Be confident, and dont try to bother him all the time. A snake that old that doesnt trust humans might be hard to win over.
Try leaving a clothing item of yours in his tank overnight if it fits in there easily so he can get used to your smell.

I think what makes humans great is our ability to reject instinct if it's wrong. People who just blindly do what their instincts say aren't very well adapted for the modern era.

What are a few examples of being wrong about instincts and please explain what blindly following your instincts means and how that relates to modernity at all
>>
>>35274862
We live in a time where everything around us is unnatural.
Those instincts were developed when our ancestors lived in huts in the jungle and everything was out to kill us. We dont live in that world anymore and most people have overcome their primal instincts. People who cant even do that are no better than monkeys
