Even the idea that there is a future with any working place for the bulk of humanity seems kinda rosy to me at this point. I think the ugly future is a future of camps for the homeless, which will be almost everyone because jobs won't exist and homelessness will be made illegal (already kinda is in a lot of areas), where you go to slowly die in squalor while the ownership class lives it up in a post-scarcity utopia where they spend their 3-4 hour "working" days engaged in the loftiest intellectual engagements. While I believe environmental estrogen do have an effect, I think lack of physical activity, poor dietary habits and perhaps the psychological effect society's rejection of masculinity. It is true that the rich have some vested interest in keeping the rest of the world nice, if you think about it rationally in the long term. The trouble is that the rich are not on average more intelligent or rational than anybody else, and following their gut instincts to increase their bank account numbers by any means necessary will result in them trying to dodge as much social responsibility (in the form of taxes) as they can, which will invariably make it harder/impossible for people to work their way into the upper class and also make the existence of the poor more miserable as social services shrink and disappear.
