Why is it bad being lonely? Why do really bad illusions start to harbor which turn into negative thinking? I thought being alone was a good thing. Don't have to worry about pleasing your other or saying anything that won't damage your friendship with people?

Relationships with friends, family and love interests are the thing that can bring you the most hapiness in life. We are social beings, if you are deprived of contact with others your brain starts behaving in weird and unpleasant ways.
There are some exceptions (most of the autism spectrum, some other disabilities) who wont suffer from the negative effect (that much), but even if you are rather antisocial you need social contact.

talking with, listening to and looking at other people is needed for your brain in order to fully function. If you have no social contact your brain will be stressed, alert and anxious while you also get dumber, its harder for you to compute sensory imput and you lose the ability of speaking well.
Human contact is a basic need similar to a good nights rest or well-nutritioned food, you can survive without it but you will suffer.
Its a hellhole that social isolation leads to more anxiety, more depression and social ineptitude which itself leads to social isolation again.

Good to know anon, I'm not the guy who you responded to, but this helps explain why my mind felt so much more sharp and intelligent in 12th grade, when I had my most amount of social interaction. Looks like I'll have to find people to talk to say I can keep my mind in optimal condition.
