The only girlfriend I ever had was mentally ill, and she stressed me out so fucking much constantly, and I always felt obligated to make her problems my problems and help her.

I think I spent more time reassuring her and talking her through her problems than I did on anything else in my life, and it was like that for years. I thought that it would eventually get better, but they didn't. It got to the point where I'd rather be at work instead of at home, dealing with her latest irrational fear or bout of depression. When things were going badly at work plus home, life was fucking abject misery for me. I got so stressed out that I lost around 30 pounds, never having time or energy to eat.

Thankfully, I no longer have to worry about work, or a girlfriend.
