It's been about 16 hours since Ash Wednesday hit us, and lent began.
For the duration I've decided to give up:
>Swearing
>Sugary Drink/Sweets/Candy/Crisps
>Porn
I can handle the rest, but I'd kill right now to have that first sip of the day.
PIC RELATED: IS MY FAVOURITE ENERGY DRINK. USUALLY ON LIKE 2 A DAY
Help my robots.

Lent is just another way for religion to control your daily life in minute ways.
Ascend, brother, and embrace the freeing notion that is godless-ness.
wtf is lent

I'm not actually Christian, infact I have very little spiritual belief. However, anyone who thinks that it's not worth showing a little bit of self-restraint every now and again by giving up frivolities is a complete moron. I just choose to do it at Lent as it's practiced by others around me and helps me stay motivated. The fact that it gives you a set '40 days of fasting' means it isn't left to you to set your own duration and rules. The bottom line is we're too soft on ourselves.
Some of the stories about Christ are pretty interesting though.

Completely false, or at best total subjective.

I feel you friend, I really do
WORKING OUT EVERY DAY
Because I don't do enough to justify giving something up. Though I think I'll join you and give up porn and masturbating.

My robot bf and I are giving up sex for Lent.
We've been fucking daily for the last year or so but we both decided it would be a good idea to work on other aspects of our relationship during this time.

I'd have to disagree. Most people give up something that has become part of their daily, if not weekly routine etc. Alcohol, a bag of chips. Cutting these out for a 40 day period will not only make you feel better during the fasting period, but most likely giving them up for that extended period of time will encourage you to consume less of those products in the future as you've become less accustomed to consuming them.
Furthermore, making changes in your diet, like cutting out sugar or caffeine, helps you to understand how your body works, and what certain foods can do to it. This would be much harder to pinpoint if you continually maintained your same diet for years on end.
Regardless of health benefits, just giving up something for a brief period can induce fantastic psychological effects, as you're holding yourself to a certain rule in the back of your mind that you must act by etc. I can't put sugar in my tea. It's good for the brain. It's a bit like playing Skyrim as a role-playing character, where you set specific limits on your character, like they're afraid of water as their mother drowned so must used bridges.

Switch to coffee, you goof. It's better for you and actually has more caffeine than almost every energy drink on the market. Plus it helps protect your liver against cirrhosis and hepatitis.

> Hedonism, about achieving the maximum amount of pleasure, and the least amount of pain.
> Implying that it feels better to drink 7 cans of coke, rather than savoring one glass

>savoring one glass of coke

So we're going with completely subjective. Okay.
