Provo, Utah, which is actually a pretty good place to live for aspiring musicians. The only problem is, I hate country and indie, the two most popular genres here.

Have experienced both of these so many times. It feels so amazing to play a packed bar with everyone dancing and hot girls shaking their assessment and drunk chads going nuts. But that's only happened like twice for me and I've been playing for 8 years

I've been drumming for a long time and still have that problem ocassionally. It's tough but he needs to practice your songs to a click, like 10-20 times in a row. Even with extreme discipline, speeding up at shows is common. Almost every band ever plays faster live

>put up call on fb, some dude none of us knows responds
>tell him our various musical influences; he says, "cool I think this will work out nicely"
>he starts coming to practices but doesn't like when he has to play anything "weird"
>one day he gives me a ride and he's listening to a mix of all the bands we listed as influences; I ask why and he says "well it's not like i know any of these guys so I figured I should get familiar"
>he starts insisting daily on fb that we have to come to his place for practice so we can record with his "cool recording gear"
>we don't even have a solid song finished yet wut
>he becomes insistent about it, messaging us saying "guys come over let's do this"; he lives like an hour out of town
>dude suddenly starts getting explosive and insecure when he finds out we all have other musical projects and he doesn't
>We usually group chat on fb to work out the next practice day; the dude blows up one day during a planning and says "fuck this; you guys don't take this seriously at all, because it's like a side project to you. Well I'm not gonna be in a side project, fuck you"

>show goes well; big crowd, we're well received
>get fb message from him 2 days later: "look I came to that show to see how bad you would be without me, but I was blown away. If you'll have me, I'd love to come back and play with you guys"

We do know some covers, those aren't really the problem. Problem is our sound is really noisy and distorted. Really limits our choice of venues where we live.

It's hard to explain the appeal. I like how soundtracks can be stationary, but still feel like they have movement. The early synth type stuff I record is pure wankery though.

I mean I don't have anything against experimental synth music. It's just that when somebody makes a 20 minute long "suite" of synth drones and tweaking, call it "The End of Everything" or some similar shit, then everyone circlejerks online about how deep it is, it gets irritating.

Usually the people I meet are either into punk, metal, edm or rarely indie rock. I always default to playing early 80s type new wave synthpop/rock influenced music.
