They start driving in slow neighborhoods and parking lots and if they fuck up its not a big deal and eventually they get good enough to move on to bigger challenges and become comfortable and apt at the use of the 2 ton death machines and most of the time everybody is ok because there are lots of rules to help people drive safe

Modern cars are actually very safe. I've gotten in several crashes and never been injured. Most recently my car went off the road and flipped and hit a tree and got totaled and I wasn't even wearing a seatbelt. Admittedly I got knocked out that time and it could have been really bad so I drive much more safely now. Never had another accident or gotten pulled over in the years since. Wear your seatbelt and you should be very safe. The whole vehicle is very very very carefully designed to protect strapped-in bodies. Seriously auto manufacturers put LOTS AND LOTS of money into this shit. Cars are very expensive and that makes them Serious Business. I advocate defensive driving is you're particularly worried, that's a pro-active approach rather than just trusting everyone else on the road to not be retarded. There's a lot of retards on the roads but they're easy to work around if you have good defensive skills.
