Most likely you would be able to get a business visa with a worker's card. Allowing you to purchase property/rent a nicer home.

What's good, OP. I've been living in Japan for about 5+ years now.

Just visit. Unless you have family here or marry someone here, you're gonna have a hard time securing citizenship. I have a cool loophole for you, though. It only works if you have a lot of money saved up, though, or you make a lot of money while doing it. I know someone who does this.

Just go on a tourist visa. It'll last like 90 days. 3 months about. Then a week or two before you leave, go online and book a super cheap-ass flight to Korea or Singapore or whatever. Japanese airlines have these super cheap fucking deals for those places instead of an expensive ass international flight.

Once you leave Japan, re-enter again, and your 90 days is reset. Repeat.

This country isn't what you're expecting, though. Have fun if you ever make it. I'm in Osaka if you ever come here.

To all the people who've been there and complain about xenophobia, can you actually give examples? I'm curious, how bad can it be? Most countries are xenophobic.

The long hours, shit pay and shitty working conditions, plus the sword dangling above your head knowing they could replace you in 10 minutes flat, doesn't exactly make you feel good.

You should only go to japan if you're highly skilled, and even then it's like this :

Imagine 2 highly skilled people have to push a 1 tonne boulder, 1km to their goal. There's 2 paths, a nice, flat path(the skilled guy who stays in the US), or the 80 degree steep mountain covered with jagged rocks and black ice(the skilled person who goes to japan)

Sure both can succeed, but you'd have to be mentally fucking retarded to take the steep path.

My no 1 piece of advice to ANYONE who wants to live in japan is, either go as a tourist, or just go for a temporary time. If you go there treating it as something permanent, you'll only wind up depressed, mentally ill, or most likely both.

Hey, OP. I've been living in Japan for the better part of a decade and will likely remain here for the rest of my life. Come to Japan as an English teacher. Study Japanese. Once it improves to N2 at the very least, start looking for jobs in mechanical engineering (or another field altogether).

Japan can be nice for people who like solitude, but you'll also need to learn how to make nice with the neighbors, even on just a superficial level.

There are pros and cons of living here, but it wouldn't be smart to come here thinking that you will lead the perfect life. There will be problems, large and small, but you can still be happy here.
