it depends but for that one i started just doodling general shapes with a pencil until i found an appealing one (the pig with the man head) and went on from there it's sort of stream of consciousness drawing i guess. in that specific case is more about the composition than it is about the meaning

everyone i know who draws is a girl and they only do it to impress people. they've admitted that, and its become a chore because of that feeling. one of them does it professionally (so she doesn't give up), another one gets commissions (so its a chore), and the rest actually quit.

which is why i like these threads so much. predominantly male, unique sketches, and they have a good measure of whether or not their art is shit. i guess a lot of the amateurs just lurk

in my experience its very forgiving. in watercolor you cant brush over your mistakes unless you're brushing over a lighter color and in acrylics you have to be fast while melding colors. im slow and prone to errors so oils for me
