The 2000s are just a shittier version of the 2010s. Most everything you could complain about existed back then but in greater force.

People can and will be nostalgic about anything. I know because 4chan existed back then and people were bitching about how much better things were in the 90s and laughing about how ridiculous it was that some kid in 10 years being nostalgic about the 2000s.

I think with the 2000s we finally hit a plateau where people admitted that things weren't better just because they grew up with them. It was just a maximalist time without a lot that was unique or redeeming about it and it was really easy to hate.

the 2000s were shit. The 2010s are much better. Other than the job market and inflation I can't think of anything that was better in those hopeless lefty days.

they're just as fun today, it's just that there are also several negative factors piling on now. not least of which being that you're more aware of the world at large and jaded as a result, and that bad things (which always existed) get a lot more light than they used to with the massively mainstream popularization of social media.

add in that whichever end of the horseshoe you were leaning when you were younger, optimism vs pessimism, you're probably much further down that bend today.

personally i'm an optimist, and I think the modern era and all of it's technologies and scientific discoveries are absolutely amazing. we're curing diseases and developing vaccines, making amazing advances in robotics and computing, and producing plenty of quality entertainment of all forms at an astronomical pace

I don't know about other stuff, but 2006 is my cutoff point for video games. Games made after that are usually shit and that trend remains unchanged to this day.

All is not lost though, because at least anime picked up a lot from 2011 onward, so I still have something to occupy my free time with.
