It varies from church to church and seems largely independant of denomination. There are plenty of liberal catholics and conservative protestants.

Catholicism is a great religion. Large faithful church with a long history. Try not to listen to traditionalist catholics who want to paint post vatican ii catholicism as some kind of radical, hyperliberal church that is far different from the church of old.
There are some differences, but the core beliefs and dogmas didn't change. A lot of traditionalists get their jollies by misrepresenting vatican ii, or they are outright ignorant of it.

If you want to go the traditionalist route, no one is stopping you. You can still attend forma extraordinaria mass, if that is your cup of tea.

The only real danger with that is you might run into those heretical fucking sedevacantist edgelords.
They are the real problem and they need to fuck off.
But other than that, there is really no problem with traditionalists.

The point is, I can't recommend catholicism enough.
