I've been in numerous LDR's, I don't know if it's just me, but most of the time even if the relationship is good it never works out.

Mainly because of the distance that puts the strain on the relationship, even if you do end up meeting up.

If you're really set on an online relationship try and at least get someone who lives in your country or state that doesn't take so much effort to travel to.
