If you want the dragonslayer spear maybe, but I would rather face down Super Smough than Super Ornstein. Ornstein is a lot fastser and unless you are on NG+ there isn't a whole lot of lightning resistant armor.

They really are. I like the spear for aesthetic, but for actual gameplay I like the Silver Knight Spear for PVE and the Lifehunt Scythe for PVP. But even in DS2 the Dragonslayer is lacking, the Heide Knight Spear is superior.

In DS3 they more or less cracked the spear. If you have the appropriate Faith it has an amazing lightning stab. Spears are almost uniformly shit in 3, but that one, since it essentially incorporates a miracle, is actually great.

Your options are sadly limited. Since the reduction of lightning spears from 10 to 4 in DaS2, a weaponized faith build has not been treated kindly. If you want to do it this time, you will need to prioritise tanky stats, strength etc and use the faith to supplement. A bit of healing, a rare Wrath of the Gods. For the most part you'd be relying - in the latter part especially - on the very nice buffs.

Even in 2 I tended to rely on my buffed weapons and Use offensive miracles as a finisher or as a last resort. How are dex weapons looking in 3?

DaS1 OP build: lightning uchi, grass crest shield, BKH, partial Havel's, ninja flippy ring, some pyro

It was my first playthrough, but being an unrepentant scrub was fun. There's literally nothing wrong with it on your first run.

Rapiers are pretty good. Twin katanas are twin straightswords are very good albeit overused. In fact there are a few nice katanas. Some pretty sweet curved swords. There are also a paired boss set of a dagger and a greatsword that has some pretty amazing spins and things that work well in PvP. Twinblades as well - paired scimitars - have some very nice manoeuvres. So in essence, dex isn't bad this time.

If you like horizontal swings, you're in luck. For some reason, straight swords are absolute dynamite this time. You can farm for the Lothric Knight Sword very early. It has an 18 dex requirement and gets an S in faith scaling infused. It would definitely see you through the game based on what you said.
