>read old computer magazines from late 90s and early 00s
>at least 20 years old magazines, but they feel like yesterday
>talk about strange new future technology called DVDs, high speed internet, CRT monitor reviews, guides to make your own BBS systems, those sweet sweet /vr/-vidya reviews, etc.
>get the biggest feels
Obviously the tech is way superior now, internet is more than I could ever wish for, all the games and movies of the world are just a click away, etc. but I still kinda miss those early days.
I miss the "tribalism" era of the internet when all the communities were spread on their own little corners of the internet, on their own forums and irc channels etc. Now everybody's on facebook and twitter, using their real names instead of the screen names. Again, it's obviously more convenient from the user's point of view, but it does miss that feeling of mystery.
I still refuse to use my real name on forums. I don't even have any social media profile, at least not for official personal use.
I'm glad that I can just pull out my phone and get to the internet wherever I am, but I also miss the times when I had to wait all school day so that I can get home and use the computer. I miss the times when internet and computers were considered nerd shit.
These are some bittersweet feels. Come on rowboats, let's moan together over shit nobody cares about!
>accidentally click on realpayer icon on your desktop
>have to wait it to launch just so that you could close it, or alternatively reboot the computer
>both options took several minutes and felt like a chore
>tfw you will never talk to ladies on AIM ever again
newgrounds, downloading anime over irc, kaillera, livejournal, animehighway etc.....
>the matrix is the hottest shit
>everybody on the internet has some matrix inspired nickname
>the_one, neo1, xXx-NEO-xXx, ne0-one, etc.
I still kinda want to get a black trench coat...
Remember when back then all the computer class teachers warned not to give out your personal details on the internet? Nowadays it's perfectly normal to post stupid shit under your real name.
It's good that I can finally fap to pics of my irl crushes, but it has also revealed what kind of sloots most of my crushes are.
People were all about love hina and chobits back then.

This is what pisses me off the most about internet use today. I got home internet pretty late (early 2004) but was using it regular in school from about 2002 and even then there were warnings to never give out face shots of yourself online, never post your name, ect. Nowadays that shit is encouraged with some people even regarding you as weird if you don't have a social media page with all your personal shit over it.
Fucking normies.

>ladies
I have bad news for you.
>>35028577
That you're an underaged piece of shit that has no clue how the Internet used to be?
Lurk moar, newfag.
I used my parents PC for the first time in years the other day. Was never used because it was lodged in the box room and the room was full of shit. They have moved now and decided to use it.
I used to use in its peak around the golden era (was used mostly between 2004-2007, the end of the golden era)
Amazing to see all of the stuff on there. Mp3 in folders, GameSpy, kazaa, Windows XP still going strong. MSN messenger.
The whole XP thing for me was just beautiful

I also remember using XP for the first time. It was so futuristic and slick compared to the older Windows'. To me it's the tipping point from old computing to new computing.

It was nice how back in the day people could have an internet persona separated from the irl persona. You could spend months or even years chatting with people without knowing more than their screen name, and those rare cases in which said screen name was connected to a real person were so exciting.
I also dislike how social media controls the flow of information these days. Everything goes through facebook, twitter, etc. and it's not even convenient since that information is hardly ever let untouched, so everything has a normie bias now.
Smartphones were a mistake.

I feel you OP. But the 90s/early 2000s were a moment in time, and it's over. We live in the wonderful progressive world of the 2010s (soon to be 2020s), and stuff like that is never, ever coming back.
I myself have a LOT of problems handling this Brave New World so I'll probably be killing myself within the next 10 years. I don't want to see how things will get even worse.
>you are now remembering how everybody had a custom south park character on their forum dp
>tfw using a 33.6k modem to download a few porn images off Usenet to jerk off to
Fucking kids today have no idea how good they have it.
Tech was amzing but kind of sucked when I was a kid, I wish I would of had some real resources to actually learn about it back then.
