How do guys feel about UBI? Do you think it's inevitable? Do you think it's a positive or negative for society?

Eventually you'll just be given food and housing. Communism is the future when the machines take over labour.
>>
It might happen if everything manual becomes automated, but that won't happen for a good few decades
>>
I like it better than the current (US) system of welfare, which punishes people for working. I admire Milton Friedman and I believe he supported a UBI.
>>
If everything truly becomes automated, I think it could work.

I think that'd be wonderful. Not having to work, but being able to if you want to improve your condition.
>>
it's an inevitability in some form

there are less jobs than ever before and more people every day

randcucks will twist themselves into a fucking pretzel and shit their pants every time it gets brought up, but she lived in a vastly different time, almost every job mentioned in atlas shrugged is now obsolete or done by a robot

Money is the measure of labour. Businesses will simply raise prices when everyone is richer. It will make no difference to what you can buy in the long term and only further destabilise your currency.

I think its good. It should be an annual cash payout, not >>34967156
>>
Inevitable in some form but also impossible with money desu
>>

If robots make everything, then only the owners of the robots are making money. Thus the economy would collapse.
If you tax the robots and give those tax bucks to the people, civilization will be able to continue. This is the end result of capitalism; a society in which no one needs to work.

>How do guys feel about UBI? Do you think it's inevitable? Do you think it's a positive or negative for society?

it is undeniably inevitable in some form as we move into a post employment society. Whether this takes the form of food and housing credits or whether every citizen is given an allowance we will have to wait to see.

Our world is designed around the assumption that people need to work to live, but that is more and more proving to not be the case.

Before, every country in the world revolved mainly around primary economic sectors such as agriculture or pure mineral mining. These economic activities formed the bulk of economic activity in any country.

With the industrial revolution, less than 1% of our workforce needs to work in agriculture or mining today. Machines can help grow crops, collect fish, and mine metals better than humans ever could.

Before, in the 50s and 60s, many more people were employed in manufacturing in the West than there are today. This is the second sector of the economy, which deals with the manipulation of mined or harvested base resources. Making cars, making toys, making clothes, these are all secondary economic activities.

Our current economy is service oriented, which economists call the tertiary sector of the economy. This involves the transport or sale of these manufactured goods - things like paying mcdonalds for frys isn't about paying just for the salt or potoatoes but the delivery to you and the easy access to this food. Jobs such as truck driver, cashier, and salesperson are all tertiary sector jobs. And these jobs are ALL going away, quick.

So what's going to happen when less people need to work? This is obviously a positive for society, but also a negative for capitalism. There needs to be an implicit hierarchy for capitalism to work, where there simply isn't room for everyone at the top. So, is change inevitable? Yes. And it's not gonna be fun for us unless the our capitalist system changes soon.

I just want to be able to live in a studio flat with my rent and basic food budget taken care of, and get like 10 pounds a month I can spend on or save for luxuries
>>
I think anyone with any intellectual honesty realizes that if automation continues uncontested then pretty much every job in existence that isn't like entertainment and creative works will be taken over by robots. Medicine might survive too just on the basis that people don't want to put their lives in the hands of a machine but pretty much everything else is out the door once technology is good enough.

People always say that new jobs are always created regardless of how technology progresses but that just isn't true. Eventually you WILL reach a breaking point here robots will literally be able to do anything and everything and then there just won't be anything left.

If automation isn't stopped or greatly discouraged, then yeah a UBI is going to become the new way of living. That's nothing to celebrate though, that pretty much traps the poor into being poor forever. The few ways you could branch out and still become wealthy will be so congested and difficult. The rich are going to win and control everything after that. It's not easy becoming super rich now but becoming a multi-millionaire at least is not hard in our current society. If you know how to invest, it's just a matter of letting enough time pass and not being crazy with your money.

I remember reading that Bill Gates once you put taxes on the machines and I think that's a step in the right direction. I don't think companies should be able to completely destroy the workforce without at least a little bit of resistance. It's in vain but it should be a thing.

Anyway yeah, society is pretty much going full socialist in the future. When? Who knows, probably not in our lifetimes but it's happening.
>>
it'll happen at some point.

It'll also be terrible. People will lose all motivation in life and end up depressed.

>People will lose all motivation in life and end up depressed.
This is what capitalist scumsuckers actually believe.

>What's a hobby? What's art? What's athleticism? What's friends and family? Nothing! Without licking a boot every day for 8 hours to survive, people will feel worthless!!!!
>>
>>34968497
You're right, working makes people so happy and fulfilled.

Hang on, I need to install a few more safety nets in Foxconn factories so the workers stop jumping to their deaths.
>>
>>34968497
What will this poor salaryman do once his job is automated? Working for 12 hours to exhaustion and then getting blackout drunk is the only thing that gives him purpose!

He'll be devastated. He might be able to spend time with his wife and child, or pursue a passion. How boring.
>>
Probably will be inevitable only because the unwashed masses will chimp out otherwise once robots replace 2/3 of the workforce.
Sterilization methods should be put in place for 5-10 years in advance before rolling out UBI though. Maybe some cancer-causing elements as well. And of course, free virtual reality access for everyone as part of the UBI package so people can die off peacefully. UBI should be a temporary transitional period towards a purely technocratic society with a much lower, more carefully cultivated population.

You need educators and others who shape the thoughts and developments of others in person. Media isn't enough.
