If you have natural gas deposits behind your house and the only way to feed your family is to rip up the forest and extract it, you will probably say screw the environment and get the gas out. If you are guaranteed a UBI however, you might decide the forest is worth more than a marginal increase in your standard of living, and you might keep it.
