I was eight years old, living with my mom in the shitty apartments, our only furniture was two metallic beds, we had no money and all we could eat was buckwheat, cheap macaroni and a small pack of sausages once a week. I barely had any friends and my classmates hated me with passion, so all i could do was taking some books from the local library and read. I read them so much it fucked up my eyesight for some time.
What a time.

I was 9. I played Pokemon too much.

If you knew how to download mp3 you were leet. People used to brag how many gig of mp3 they had

Internet was for geeks only, no instagram whores, no facebook status, it was anonymous and glorious.

Not everyone had a mobile phone.

I always wonder how this got started. There's nothing in Pokemon that's devilish/satanic in any way. The closest it ever comes to that is the ghost Pokemon.

My life sucked. One of the worst years of my life. Was put into foster care that year. No computer. No cable TV. Lived in Florida and had suddenly no AC. No video games. No books to escape. Nothing but food I didn't like. Not allowed to drink soda all day suddenly. Just sucked. Didn't get better until 2007, one of the best years. Ironically, that was when I got to do things that I wanted, but the year the web went to shit, so here I am I guess. I'd probably be in jail or ded like the oldfaggots, but instead I'm stuck here because I don't know what I never had. It's not that bad yet, but even I see it getting worse as a 27 year old that has only seen it falling from 07 to.... oh wait. Nevermind me. *puts down bottle*

Homeschooled, my older brother and I were those kinds of eerily close siblings- we spent a lot of time watching television and playing in a weird based-off of TV way. (like we'd pretend our stuffed animals were on reality TV shows and shit).
We had other homeschooling families within walking distance of our house so we'd head over and we'd all mess around in our neighborhood- pretty good park with those covered baseball dugouts
Was part of a pretty cool homeschool group that would meet up and bash on each other with PVC weapons.
I decided to pass up a HS group frog dissection and followed my mom and baby sister to go "see Santa" that Christmas, the Santa hit on my mom and I was quietly outraged with her because she laughed it off and was slightly flirty.
My favorite movie was Monty Python and The Holy Grail, our VHS was a recording of it airing on Comedy Central and the following commercial terrified and slightly aroused me, I would usually run out of the basement as it began to play. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhcIyZZaMyY

That was one year into the rest of my life being ruined forever due to puberty fucking my face and shit up. Grade 7 and year 2 of being bullied on a daily basis because of my ugliness. Being 12 and kissless was still semi-acceptable, so, it didn't faze me one bit to see people my age pairing up or looking at resonable prospects - unlike today.

On february, something remarkable happened: I got dial-up internet at home. Since my father was a cheapskate, I could only stay online between 00-06am. On march, I started attending daily 7:30am classes. So that was the year when I discovered coffee, and also started to spend my growing teenage years sleeping about 2 hours a night, the whole afternoon and waking up to dinner and another night of escaping into chatrooms, forums and whatnot, talking about my life to strangers that didn't give 1/3 a shit. I still can't go like 12 hours without coffee without fatigue and headaches.

Other things that I remember: having a mild The Lion King obsession (one of the only things from 1999 that I recovered from) and hanging out with a frenemy of sorts that made fun of me for watching cartoons and generally found everything about me to be somehow wrong.

Here's to believing that things would eventually or ever get any better.
>>
>>34957726
Why were you put into foster care and what happened in 2007?
>>
'99 I was going to LAN centers on the weekends with my friend and playing every game possible on PC.
i got Counter-Strike for Christmas from my friend's family because i didn't really celebrate it.

i also played basketball everyday. basically alternated between playing basketball everyday for hours and video games.

i consider myself a video game prodigy. my first memories are me playing IBMs with family and Atari when i was like 4-5.
i learned to read on Hooked On Phonics, played Sega all day, then would go over to the neighbor's to play their Nintendo because my grandpa wouldn't let me play ours for some reason, I think it was always being borrowed.

i did that my whole life. i would just wander around, seeing if people would let me come over and play their games with them.
i used to go over to this little girl's house to play Ecco The Dolphin and her parents would leave us both unattended, it was so fucking weird looking back on it.
>>

I was 9 and looking forward to new Sponge bob episodes and Saturday morning cartoons. I also thought the future would just fall in line and it would be all good.kek

I remember when our school did a project where we had to plan out our future and present it to the class. I had a wife, career, and kids in there. I'm a HKV neet now that isn't "panda material" and under qualified to take out garbage and boxes out of trucks at panda express. it wasn't supposed to turn out like this

and for some reason it was really cool to carry around a binder full of printed out pictures from the internet in 99.
we would print out colored DBZ pics and bring them to school to share with each other, which eventually led to the discovery of hentai, along with seeing Ninja Scroll for the first time.
>>
Starcraft 24/7
>>
I was 9. Most of my childhood was a blur (wasn't abused or anything), I have no fucking idea why. But around those years from what I remember I would play football or "manhunt" in my local school's field or woods with my older brothers and their friends, and sometimes my best friend, and we'd play Mario Kart and Perfect Dark on the Nintendo 64. Sometimes I would go to the local town with my friend and be mischievous. Holy fucking shit, there was so much community back then.

Now it's just me. I'm in another universe now.

It makes sense, but I don't know if that truly explains it all. I turned 18 in 2003, and time still felt about the same as it did in 1995 or earlier. It wasn't until 2007 that it all changed. This isn't just my own experience either. 2007 is always brought up on this site as the time where things rapidly went downhill and everything started to really feel "off".

Outside of school things were much different. I had a couple of friends on my block where I grew up. We spent most of the days outside playing random games we'd make up, or more established game (ie football, basketball). We loved playing vidya together on N64 as well. We all collected pokemon cards and gave into what was then known as "pokemania" - we'd go to toys r us and participate in the league, trade cards, buy cards with the allowance we got. We'd have gameboy battles between our pokemon. The music back then gives me so much nostalgia too. I'd watch Nickelodeon ( global guts, are you afriad of the dark, rockos modern life, doug, legends of the hidden temple). Also I had just started getting into anime (DBZ and cowboy bebop) and drawing.

FUCK how I wish I could be young again. I'd willingly endure the torture of school life just to relive these moments.

That was the year my parents divorced. I was 10. Dropped down a social class, had to leave our nice house. Not having that father figure would indelibly leave its mark on a young robot.

All because my mom fell for the feminism meme and hated being provided for by a hedge fund manager. Now she's a secretary and hates her job. Like she expected computers not to proliferate, and she didnt expect there to be so few jobs since the last time she did secretary work in the 80s.

Bitter forever.

y2k might not have happened but it was the catalyst for the worst decade I was about to experience.

Now that it's over I live in the hills on the great plains. I dont see anyone for weeks at a time. When it snows I can't leave for weeks. When its a warm 50 I walk outside naked and play fetch with my dog. I don't feel lonely but I really miss having a fast internet connection. I can yell as loud as I like and hear my voice echo off a barn and the hills and I shoot bottlerockets at the moon.

99 was the door to an alternate timeline where my mom coulda ctfo and I would have been taught stock broking by the old man.

Oh well, guess I'll die early instead.

Why? Most young people are NEETs nowadays.

He lost it all in the divorce, then 90% of his paychecks went to his wife for both alimony and child support.

He still wanted to live near us so his grandfather leased him this run down old house with uneven floors and squirrels in the walls and heated by one of those pioneer stoves which functioned as an alternative to his shredder. There was no big house, and even if there was he couldn't watch us while at work. A fulltime job with a 2 hour commute both ways plus client dinners and trips to meet with clients.

It's a shit move to force a kid to choose a favorite parent. All those unpleasantries about your parents using you to get back at the other become a focal point of your weekends. And one of your siblings will pick the other parent, thus making a horrid competition between the both of ya and damaging your long term relations.

But yeah if you're a well off man and get divorced, you lose your house. Also your wife gets her lawyer to sift through your alternate accounts so you're in for a shitty year.

At least nobody ever called your father a bitter CIS virgin who didn't man up. That would be a far worse fate, I'm sure.

Awesome; I was 14 and playing Dreamcast while everyone else was worried about Y2K. I bought the Dreamcast with my own money; saved up all summer doing odd-jobs to pay for it on 9/9/99.

Now that I think about it, the difference about then and now is the level of hope, my life wouldn't be any different. I used to be a huge Doom fan, it is a hard game to get rid off because it works even in toasters.

tfw so hopeless not even memories of childhood warms my heart anymore

>7th grade spring
>had friends, life was good
>best summer ever
>riding around town on bmx's with my cousin all night long and playing videogames until sunrise
>autum comes along
>8th grade
>suddenly lose all friends and become the weird kid
Life has been hell ever since. The first eight months were sweet as hell though.

It was honestly probably the best time of my life, thereabouts anyways. Was working my ass off, making tons of money, driving my shitheap with my bros, listening to trance music, having good wholesome sex with good wholesome (not really) females. Everything was great back then.

I was 5, just a kid playing video games with my siblings, going to pre school , playing outside until sunset, climbing trees to pick cherries, and watching cartoons on TV.

Oh and the 1999 y2k scare. And the New Years was out of control. We had a huge New Years party and I remember everyone going crazy. Best Christmas and New Years ever I think I tasted beer for the first time too. Just turned 6

It was great, my mother finally died, no more hearing her fucking voice again, she wanted to be buried with my Dad, dug him up and sold the plot, cremated them both and flushed that sand down the toilet, assholes, inherited her house and 9 rental properties, got rid of all her shit, especially the plastic carpet runners, did the house how I wanted, finally got my GED, no more going to bed a 9pm, no more British PBS bullshit shows on a green screen Zenith TV, no more fucking cats, changed my first name to Carrington, and turned 40 just before the Solstice and the start of Yule, it was the best year of my life.

I was 4... I liked trains and dinosaurs and watching Land Before Time... Basically the first year of my life that I have a few memories from. I have like 3 or 4 memories from 2-3 but they are short and probably inaccurate. I remember when I was three I saw a girl someone told me was five and I thought I'd be as old as her in two years... Come to think about it that's pretty good math for a kid that age. I also drew a lot of inventions around 4-5. It was a simpler time but thinking back on it the memories are almost surreal in their simplicity.

I was 3. From what I can remember life at that age is just like a hazy but very good dream.
