Because they watch a shitload of their media in the form of anime. Their hero fantasies and only romantic exposure is strictly limited to anime, and most of their free time is devoted to it. It builds up a soft spot in them, and they slowly start to confuse anime with the reality of Japan.

As a result, they think that Japan is something that it really isn't. Their love is genuine, but their understanding is outright flawed.

Weebs have at some point used Japanese media for escapism, and thus many of them view Japan as an escape. It's really quite simple.

I'd be glad to answer more interesting questions if anybody has them. I'm a fag though, so straight sex related stuff I'm not an expert on.
