This. Loans that come from a legitimate lender (not a shark) are a risk that should be calculated by the lender. If a borrower can pay back the loan, they do their best to do so. If a borrower gets to a point where they can't pay, they can declare bankruptcy, default on the debt and it's game over. The borrower's credit will be ruined (of course) but it was irresponsible of the lender to approve such a loan in the first place and the law recognizes this in a bankruptcy.

If you get big loans from a shark, bankruptcy/default is also an option, but it usually ends much more poorly than just ruined credit.

I know personally two people here in hcmc who got into debt over art school and now are successful here. Successful is relative. You can live comfortably on 1.3k USD a month here and thats the bottom on the barrel teaching jobs. With a full degree they are able to get full-time work at big schools making 2.5k-3k+++ which here, means you can live like a king and save like 90% crazy if your frugal.
